I ended up buying this umbrella with the Sunbrella fabric when it got posted in the other thread. A few home depots in the Chicago area have them in-stock so you can pick up in-store. Quality seems pretty good. Much better than other umbrellas I've seen in store for this price. Going to compare to the $600-$700 Costco umbrellas next time I'm there. Overall this is a very slick deal.

I just bought one and it says in bold right on the box Sunbrella fabric. This is from the home decorators brand. I also bought the aluminum lounging set which also had sunbrella cushions. It seems they offer quality products at reasonable prices.

FYI - regular price of this is $299. Not slick at all!

Any real information is enough here. No one is getting paid to contribute. Plus, quite the eye opener of just how much umbrellas can weigh! They sound innocent enough, but these arent tote umbrellas to slip in your pocket!
The umbrellas themselves state about 90 pounds on the box. But the sand is what keeps it in place of course for windy days.

I haven't put it up yet, but that appears to be a different model.

Here's the manual link again.

Looking at the first page in that versus what is in the video, it appears to be a different umbrella.

Give wind the right mechanism to work, and it will lift 1 million pounds. So few hundred pounds of sand seems right for a light breeze. The more weight, the more likely you won't find the umbrella in your neighbors yard one day, or worst

When you crank it - don't crank it all the way otherwise you will break it. That is the problem everyone is facing - over cranking it.

Costco's model is much better quality, I saw that yesterday. It was on sale with $100 off currently.

There is no way this one from Home Depot anywhere close to $600! The price of $250 seems like regular pricing. My Home Depot has a ton of them - looks like nobody wants them

Any one of these have two wheels at the base to roll them to different location if needed?

How big is the box for this. Not sure if I need to borrow a bigger minivan to pick it up

Repped, Thank you. Do you have a link for the kind of wood you used?
The wood pieces are from old 12mm laminate flooring from many years ago. You can pretty much use any thick flooring plank. I would try nextdoor app to see if your neighbors can spare a few planks they're not using. Or just go check out the scrap pile in the lumber section at home depot or lowes for something a bit cheaper (avoid soft wood though). I think they even help cut them to size if you ask them. I did have to sand down the edge of the wood pieces so that they don't cut into the zip tie when I tighten them up.

It ended up costing me about $20 and some labor to put together the setup. If you have to spend a lot more to get the other pieces then perhaps a real base with wheels may be a better way to go.

Think some leftover 2x4 would work or is it too thick/heavy?

I have been using this one for 3 years now. It was only $70, now only $68.

It should last a few more years.

Does anyone happen to know the dimensions of the base? I'm trying to determine if the base will tuck under the back of the patio sectional.
