Not that great of a deal, but I absolutely love this trimmer. I use it mainly to edge my grass, and about 10 minutes of use on 2 it'll almost eat up a whole 4ah battery. After I edge I'll switch to 1 and do some more trimming and it'll die in 5-10 minutes.

I originally had a black and decker 20v trimmer and 2ah would last until I was done, but I ended up dropping it too many times. I was scared of 18v vs 20v, but man does this trimmer have power!

I've also reloaded the line and it was super easy! I would wind my own line on the b&d trimmer since it used a spool.

I highly recommend this trimmer to anyone in the ridgid platform, just make sure you have enough batteries for it!

Great info, thanks. I'll keep my eye out for one of these as the price drops.

Any issues with overheating?

No, but the end with the battery does get a little hot and with it flipped to edge I do feel it.

Just bought into the ridgid ecosystem this summer after the awesome deals they had on batteries and their torque wrench. My trusty 20v black and decker trimmer (weaker but still runs fine) got dropped one too many times, and the guard is shot. I guess that's what I get for having the kid mow the lawn. I really liked the way it flipped around for edging.

I have a six AH and couple 4AH max output batteries, would that be enough for a 30-40 min run time?

I still have an older and much heavier gas craftsman trimmer, but it's heavy enough to have a shoulder strap and it sucks for edging, so I can wait for a better deal if needed.

Man, I needed new power tools for home aprx. 1.5 years ago and I ended up buying into ridgid. The tools have all been great so far, but at the time I found out about AEG (the European ridgid) and their entire line of yard tools. Of course this was very intriguing to me, but unfortunately the reality was ridgid didn't offer that line of tools in America. I was impatient not knowing if they ever would bring it to US but ended up getting the ryobi 40v line which has actually been a great setup.

Seems like the Greenworks 80v trimmer with 2Ah battery for $190 should be better than this, no?

Depends if you've already bought into Ridgid or Green works or not. And this has a lifetime service agreement

I am need of a good trimmer and have been researching lately. I love Ridgid and have a bunch of their tools, but there are some serious cons I noticed with this trimmer. No replacement heads/cover for spools available, no strap, no battery bigger than 8.0, cutting swath only 14 inches and you need to hope you have a repair center near you to fix if it breaks. I also saw someone say in the HD comments it costs $35 to repair something like this now, not sure if this is true. Milwaukee seems to make some good trimmers but they still seem to have issues with their batteries overheating.

If it helps, 20v and 18v batteries actually have the same voltage. They're 20V peak and 18V nominal, so saying they're 18V is a bit more of a realistic representation.

Thanks for the review. Shame about the battery life, but good to know. I have Ryobi 40V for yard tools and I've never managed to totally drain a battery using the brushless trimmer even doing a couple hours of work, so I figured trimmers just didn't need much juice! My leaf blower will eat through a 6ah in probably 20 minutes or less in contrast.

Not much of a deal compared to other brands, wish it was attachment capable!

I had a old 8 year brushed Ridgid drill replaced at the store that has a rental department. They gave me an entire kit with brushless drill, 2 bats and a charger. I read that the $35 deposit is for mail in tool repairs/replacement and is refunded if it is found that the tool is defective and not broken from abuse. ie ran over by a semi truck, dropped in the ocean...

If thats the deal that has the 8 year warranty, then yes. I have have a greenwroks chainsaw and the battery went bad within 2 months. They replaced without issue.

Seems like they have work to do in the battery department if it went bad in only 2 months. Good customer service though.

Nice - I'm a bit surprised to see Ridgid moving into the lawn & garden space. I thought they were leaving that to Ryobi, which I'd assumed was a strategic decision. Ridgid gets the LSA, whereas Ryobi has the diversity of tools and lawn & garden covered. Thus lots of folks (myself included) own both ecosystems. If Ridgid keeps moving this way (hopefully) I can phase out Ryobi and settle in on just Ridgid.

I'd also assumed that Ridgid was steering clear of lawn tools since they'll have higher return rates in the LSA program. But hey - happy to see this move happen.

I believe it is attachment compatible!

I have a similar trimmer from TTI (Ryobi's "expand-it" system, which is their term for the standard attachment ecosystem) and it looks identical to this.

Plus, in the Q&A, someone asked, and the Ridgid rep said that is IS compatible with attachments "as long as they're compatible" - which is an odd deferral, but I can't imagine that TTI would engineer an entirely new coupling just for this one tool.

I don't own it (yet) but it sure looks attachment capable.
