Larger companies have carrier contracts, the cost to ship the heavy items is offset by the shipping of much more smaller items all under one umbrella contract

Keep in mind this is a "storage" bench only at only 20". I initially thought it was a workbench and found myself disappointed once reality set in.

Gotta be a profit loss.

For items like these I prefer ship to store. Less chance of shipping denting/damage- and if there is don't have to haul it to the store to return, already there.
Of course downside is having to haul it home.

Thinking of picking this up for a TV stand. Like it better and more robust than your "wood" veneer stands.

So when you do that, you pick it up at the store, and then open it on the spot and inspect for damage.

If damaged what do you do? just return it or work out a deal with the manager?

If the box is in perfect shape I may not open it, but otherwise, yep, that is exactly what I do.
If there is damage- if significant or an eyesore, I'll have them order a replacement- if I can live with it will ask for a further discount.

Of course this is for your standard SD deal. If it was a ridiculous price mistake fullfilled (like the Gladiator cabinets)- I would not utter a hoot- just take'em and run.

Thanks that makes sense. Somehow i was picturing this as opening in the store and making a mess with the pkging and cardboards. I've been eyeing Husky cabinet sets so this is helpful! Thanks

I don't know if Husky is the same, but I will say that Gladiator cabinets were both smartly and well packed in very thick cardboard, making the chance of damage slim.
