LOVED Japan when I was there last year. I'm probably going back last this year to hit up Hokkaido and Hiroshima.

FYI folks…JR is raising the price of their JR Rail Pass in October. It's looking to be a 68% price increase (for example a two week that used to cost 47k yen will now be 80k yen).

Can't wait to go back.

I am willing to squeeze in an adventure in layover city for several hours if I can get to Japan in less than $700 round trip with 2 free check-in bags.

We are leaving to Japan this weekend from Indy. We paid $1320 per person (United with 2 free check-in tickets) which was pretty good price when I bought the tickets for traveling in May. I would be super excited for $700 round ticket.

I don't understand why people don't just pick up an extra shift at work instead. 29 hour travel time is stupid. Your health will suffer.

I prefer flying into Haneda, that 50min train ride on the Narita express to Tokyo station is a bit long.

If you're mainly staying in the Tokyo prefecture, flying to Haneda is ideal. I went to Japan this year; landed in Haneda and left in Narita. Getting from Tokyo (Asakusa to be exact) to Narita sucked hard, especially with 2 checked bags.
