"Best you can buy" and "built to break at year 6" seem incompatible to me (or maybe an indictment of modern appliance quality). Our floor model Kitchenaid from Sears (R.I.P) is going on 15 years and works like a champ. Now excuse me while I find some nearby wood to knock on.
These are the best dishwashers out there and they are worth the money. They rarely go on sale either.
The 800 series is the best dishwasher you can buy - esp the newer versions which uses the mineral drying method (CrystalDry, game changing tech). Took me a while to get my hands on one, some of the Home Depot's and Best Buy's have the ADA complaint 800 series but they look really weird in a standard kitchen - so don't buy on a whim before comparing side by side to a standard 24 insert.

Just know these things are basically built to break at year 6, that was my experience with my 500 series, which would have cost $550 to repair (from Bosch factory service) - if you have a big family and run these a lot they don't last like Miele - but they are better performers then Miele overall, just know that it depreciates faster - the 800 series is so quiet 40db I can't hear it on heavy.

Only other complaint is Bosch changed to capacitive touch buttons which are finicky compared to the analog buttons of prior generations

I'm installing myself but I believe they offered it for $180 if I remember correctly.

Ah, you could be right as I only looked at the price of 300.

Bosch used to have a lot of sales at HD/Lowes. 4-5 years ago, they were always on clearance for old models yearly. But not anymore. I guess Bosch is not worried about selling their products for now.

Was the 800 series in store only? My store did not have a model in store and the discount doesn't seem to apply to an online purchase

The discount is in store only but it's being shipped from a warehouse so doesn't matter if it's stock in store.
