be warned these are minimalist, zero drop running shoes. if you know what that involves, you're probably fine choosing these. if you don't, you probably should look a bit into it before making a switch to them. I have a pair of their kit shoes and enjoy cycling them into my running routine, but you want to pay attention to how they recommend transitioning. Running is an inherent repetitive stress injury inducing sport, and a sudden change in movement, muscle use/strain, etc., without appropriate transition can result in you sidelining yourself with achilles/calf/etc strain or similar.

all that said, i like the line of shoes and may pick up a pair.

For a few years now i have 2 pairs of Altra Escalante (the first model) and a pair of Lems, super comfy and well-made, still using to this day. I looked at Altra's new models (Escalante, LP, etc) and the quality seem to have slid down, with shoes not lasting even a year. Will give these a shot.

No he is correct. It does run half size small. Other models might run true to size but this one definitely does not. I've had three pairs of the HFS.

Keep in mind these have even a thinner sole than Vibram Fivefingers or Merrell Vapor Glove (remove insole for even more barefoot feel).

Dot dot dot, that's the point. You land on the front of your foot. Your arch is a natural spring, so it's easier on your knees and it stores the energy, unlike the heel stop of normal shoes.

Sadly they probably qualify as fugly, but I am impervious because I DGAF beyond comfort and utility, lol.

If you search there are 100's of variations of this sole on different style uppers. I like the natural shape and toe box for my needs. Great for daily casual or yard work. Saves my zeros & merrils for more athletic duty where their tighter construction is useful.

One day I'll find a pair of these cheapos that just happen to a great upper too. Just takes trial and error.
