This thing is excellent and provides all the info that most folks will need.
It's not going to do with the 5k scanners do, but is far superior to the $10 ones.
The Blue Driver has connected to every car I've tried and not only does it give you the PO codes but will also give you the most likely problem and a link to amazon to buy the part. Now obviously the likely problem isn't always the real problem but it is extremely helpful and getting a link to the part is super helpful when I'm trying to find the part in the engine bay.
I bought this Blue Driver a few years ago for $100 bucks, and it's been worth every penny. It's small enough for me to bring when l was helping a friend buy a used car. There are better scan tools, for instance my $500+ scanner does bi-directional testing, and a host of other features, but for simple trouble shooting of a check engine this is my go to scanner!
TLDR: No subscription fees, Excellent software: Ez to connect and Ez user interface, Trouble codes show most common problems.

Purchased this unit 5 months ago and shortly afterwards I discovered that I was having a parasitic draw on my battery. If the vehicle was not driven for 48 hours, the battery would go dead. Never even remotely guessed that this OBD2 would be the cause...until now. I've spent the past several months pulling fuses and watching my multimeter to try to find the cause. I finally bit the bullet and took it to the dealer to figure out. Took several days of testing, but they finally figured out it was the OBD2 that was causing the draw. I Googled and found that a 'poorly designed (meaning cheap) OBD2 device, when left plugged into the OBD port will quickly drain the battery. Worse still, it can turn on your ECU even when the vehicle is not running and cause a dead battery in just 36 hours.' So BEWARNED... this OBD2 is apparently one!"

I'm asking because the Tacoma forums highly recommend the Veepeak and it's half the cost. Also seems to work with most OBD2 iOS apps out there. Does this Bluedriver module show or do more for the money?

Great tool except that to get all features you must order an expensive upgrade for a specific car type. For example, I must pay an additional $85 to get all Toyota features. I didn't see any mention of that when I made the purchase. Order page says: UNIVERSAL VEHICLE COMPATIBILITY – Works with all OBD II / EOBD compliant cars and light trucks (in the United States, vehicles since year 1996 are supported, no brand limitation).
There a NO such charges with Bluedriver.

I have this Veepeak BLE+ connected to Ioniq 5 and using with Car Scanner Pro app. Works great and the app pulls a top of info. Supports optimized mode that app needs. This doesn't seem to have any impact on 12V battery that I have noticed.
