$429 is a great price, however MC has the 7950X for $562.98. I'm currently running a 3900X (passmark:32725) so the question is either $430 to get to passmark:45921 or around $800 (new MB+RAM bundle) to get to passmark:63631. I expect there are a few of us in the same boat (not to mention that the 3900X/1080Ti combo is still easily able to handle everything I through at it - kind of annoying Wink

Same situation here. 3900X already invested B550 motherboard, 64GB ram, 990pro, GTX 6600. I would rather jump on 7900X at the end of this year or next year.

When upgrading from Ryzen 5 1600 to 3900x, I really did not get a feeling of 'upgrade' until I overclocked the CPU and ram. So passmark may not mean a lot.

Good option for anyone looking to max out their AM4 platform. Went to this from a 3950X and B-die RAM (3600mhz/14-14-14-34).
Platform maxxed out for another 2-3yrs minimum (or until something dies).

Pretty much identical to my build, but it really depends if you're maxing this thing out. 3900x was always designed more for multi threading purposes. It's a beast at handling VMs and the like, and I doubt upgrading would be notable for most things. I'd give it a few more years and hop on the next architecture, honestly.

Though if you're itching to burn cash, nothing is stopping you from doing that either.

I went from a 3700x to this. The upgrade difference was definitely noticeable. CPU bound task that I do are a lot quicker. The thought of getting a 7950x to switch platforms again has not entered my mind. Not sure I would notice the jump if I did. The gains for me switching to a new platform do not seem worth. I am happy with the 5950x and probably will be for a few years.

The real question is: do you want to pay $400 to have to rip your pc guts out and put everything back in, or are you ok to do a quicker upgrade for now?

Overpriced IMO, even for those already on AM4.

On Amazon you can get an i7-13700 which easily beats a 5950x in both gaming and multi-thread for $350: https://www.amazon.com/Intel-i7-1...B0BQ6BNY56
B760 motherboards (or older B660) are $100+, so for $20+ more you get vastly better performance, a newer motherboard with more features and a more stable platform.

The 5950x is closer to a 13600k, so it should be prices no more than $300. No matter what you get a 5950x at $430 isnt a deal, its easily beaten by Intel and AMDs newer CPUs.

I don't think ryzen 7000 is worth it. There's a reason why all the reviewers have been calling it "bleeding edge" because there's been lots of issues. Now if you don't mind dealing with the hiccups that comes with that then that's fine.

There's often a memory relearning issue with ryzen 7000 that makes boot ups take a long time. There's also the fact they can run at 95c under load regardless of the cooler. You can however put it into eco mode and the performance barely drops off and the temps come way down essentially running it as a non X.

Imo I think ryzen 8000 will iron these bumps out. First generation anything is always gonna have issues.

Where as last gen anything is always gonna have the bugs worked out. So when it comes to reliability ryzen 5000 makes the most sense and it will be a much cheaper upgrade. Ryzen 5000 has a nice single thread improvement over ryzen 3000 that the multi core score doesn't show and that makes a big difference in all sorts of applications and games

Nobody is buying a base model b660 or b760 motherboard with no features to attach a 13600k to. Motherboard is something you don't skimp on

This deal appeals to you existing ryzen owners who already have their platform. It's just one upgrade away. It makes ZERO sense going Intel and skimping on the motherboard

Also the 13600k is a 6 core 12 thread cpu at its core and for multi core workloads doesn't quite match a 5950x 16 core 32 thread for multi core work loads.

Games is different but anyone who needs 16 cores they're not just focused on playing games.

Besides your cpu will only be as good as your GPU it's paired with. So if your running an rtx 3060, upgrading to even a 13600k won't make any difference, you will be GPU bound the whole time.

400$ to remove a cpu cooler is not ripping guts out.

800$ going ryzen 7000 or Intel 13th gen would be ripping guts out (motherboard, memory, drives etc) or just getting a new case and starting over and putting your old system on market place or something would make more sense.

What do you currently have? What's your intention? Are you wanting to play games or are you doing blender 3D modeling and 4k video editing?

If your playing games then consider a cheap upgrade like the ryzen 5600. Those pair nicely without being a cpu bottleneck upto an RTX 3080 or rtx 4070.

If you do big 3D work loads and you already have a balling GPU and are running like a ryzen 3600 or something. Then consider the 5900x 12 core 24 thread for 100$ less.

If your running a ryzen 3600 for example and your GPU is really old like a GTX 1060 or 970 or something then upgrading the CPU won't make any difference.

Consider getting a better GPU like the 6700XT or the new 7600.
