For my area, there were over $15 in fees and taxes for the 5gb plan. Depending on sales tax rate, the same plan from their eBay store may save you a few bucks.

Renewals are $180 which is strange because they don't mail you a SIM. I believe you can just buy a new SIM for $160 and use the Activation code they email you to apply as a Renewal. That's what I plan to do for my renewals.

My family's plans expire in July but don't know if the 3GB plan will go on sale again for July 4...

Looks like RP finally need to reduce their price. I was RP user of 8gb ($240 annual plan) for a few years. I usually renew around black Friday for its sale price at aour. $200 for 8gb. Last black Friday, RP only reduce from $240 to $230. I was not happy to see that price on top of all the RP issues people were having with. With the discount of buy 3 month get 3 month free from mint, I decided to switch and try something else (mint is TMobile network). I think Mint is a bit worse than RP. So I guess it's time to switch back to RP. Hopefully their service is getting better. I usually go with CDMA on RP.

I'm moving from Redpocket. I'm a low data user and was on their Verizon plan with 1000 mins, unlimited texts and 1GB data/month. Data top ups were 100MB for $2 or 250MB for $5. Now the smallest top up is 1GB for $10 or 2GB for $20. If I run out of data 2 or 3 days before my plan renews I'm now spending double what my monthly plan cost just to have data for a few days. Also when you run out of data the only way to send texts is via wifi. Bye bye Redpocket. You finally got too greedy.

They are saying the promotional rate is only for new customers. I have to renew for my next year in August and was waiting for this deal.

So you think buying a new sim and using the activation code for renewal will not cause any issue? I have to renew in August too. They wrote on their page that the promotional rate is only for new line activations only.

You have 90 days to activate. Order as a renewal and ship to your beach house in DE. RP will email you the activation code. That said, the website plans tax and fees are lower than the ebay sales tax, if you want to go that route. RP charges different telecomm f/t. Last year, I opted for the 25GB web plan over the 20GB ebay plan because of this. Worth it in my case for the extra 5GB/mo. YMMV, preview the web price to compare. (Just noticed the 20GB ebay plan is now 25GB, now aligned with web plan.)

ETA:
Looks like select non-GSMA eBay plans are also available (with lower caps), too.

RP's website clearly states activation codes cannot be used for renewals and that you need to use a refill pin code instead...
