$6 isn't enough. I'm going to swap over to pennzoil. They still have their $10 dollar rebate and the price at Walmart is cheaper than Mobil 1

Because many rebates don't end up getting claimed or used which means some people accidentally pay full price when they intended to get the rebate.

Just buy the cheaper (and maybe better) Pennzoil Platinum and don't bother with rebates.

When the engineers develop and test engines you would not believe the extremes they put them through, including over and under filling.
And some people here think their local mechanic or some guy on YouTube knows more about the engines. So sad

And real world tests are an accurate way to check oil, not a youtubers little homemade benchtop contraption. I haven't followed it for a few years, but not long ago, many people were showing real world UOA's that showed Pennzoil Ultra/Platinum was better than M1/EP.

So far the cat is surviving on the Volvo. Been going in circles with Volvo for years now. Oil burn tests, special oil, ring replacement. Still burns it like crazy. Personally I feel the 10,000 oil change interval they push from new is to blame.

2023 Acura RDX I4 2.0 w/37,000 miles
2022 Mazda 3 2.5 w/41,000 miles
2022 GMC Sierra 5.3 w/58,000 miles
Thank you.
Honda had to replace pistons and rings with redesigned ones to fix oil consumption on J37 engines. I agree, 10K miles oil change interval will clog up those tiny undersized oil control rings.
Is there Volvo class action lawsuit?

It's funny how they think these TRILLION DOLLAR oil and car manufacturers don't have the best testing equipment in the world.

People still swear by oil change places like Jeffy lube. The place that stands to make the most money out of 5k synthetic oil changes.

Still no proof that 10k oil changes caused any of those problems.

I have no proof but I have suspicions. After all the mess I've been thru with my Volvo I sent an oil sample out. That sample had just over 9,500 miles on it. The results were not very good. I posted them on a well known oil advice website. I wish I had done that earlier but I was trusting Volvo. I was given the rings that Volvo replaced. The oil control rings were gunked up and seized with carbon. The mechanic said I was not changing the oil often enough and that caused the problem. The service manager wasn't happy about that advice.

I will never run my full synthetic oil past 5,000 miles again. I do understand that this is not "proof" but it's enough for me.

So answer this question for me if you can. My car has 230k on it when I got rid of it. 10k oil changes. How is it possible if 10k oil changes ruin the engine?

I've seen various UOA's on oil with 10K-15K, where Blackstone said the oil still had a lot of life left. Even some on 20K that still had more life left.

These people don't believe in UOA's. Science means nothing to them.
