Lead acid batteries like to be 100% fully charged 100% of the time. Now, some people don't drive often and the battery will drop well below 100% and cause degradation (lost capacity and eventual death) due to the formation of sulphate crystals on the surface of the lead plates that literally block the electro-chemical reaction that makes the zoom zooms go zoom.
Furthermore, many modern vehicles purposefully maintain batteries partially charged to save gas. It's pretty dumb since the savings are crap and the affect on the battery is not zero.
So, plug in a maintainer every weekend or once a month and keep that battery healthy. Have a vehicle in storage? Better have a maintainer.
Bought one of these and it stopped charging within 6 months. Bought a couple Noco chargers and have been happy with them.
Costco return policy ftw

The heck does this do?
Costs 1/2 a battery 50% off so what's the savings?

Right there is the title of the item, used to charge and maintain batteries.
Common usage is to hook up motorcycle/marine/lawn mower batteries during winter storage.
Charge a car battery that has been sitting around for a while.
In my instance we have a 2nd car we do not use everyday- so during those especially cold winter snaps I will hook it up to the car's battery the day before, so I know it has a full charge to start in the morning.
These are great for maintaining marine batteries over the winter. I have 4 batteries, 2 deep cycling and 2 starters. If I let them go for the 5 or 6 months in the winter with no maintaining I'd loose 500 worth of batteries........

Your car battery is most likely flooded. So, put it on the AGM/flooded setting.
Lithium wouldn't be a normal car or boat/motorcycle/atv battery.
