This kills broad leaf weeds decently well, you don't want to mow before applying. You want it longer and wet so it sticks to the weeds. After a few seasons of regular lawn maintenance (4ish fertilizing sessions, aerating, detaching, overseeding every few years), you shouldn't really need this and can use a regular fertilizer like their regular turf builder in the late spring. People saying it's too hot to apply this probably live in warmer climates. I'm heating my house on occasion still, planning to apply my bag I grabbed last year in a week. This gets really cheap in the fall, I've gotten a 40lb bag for $24 from Walmart before

Worked out for me. Applied this last fall after core aerating the lawn. No daffodils, and much, much less crabgrass this spring compared to last year, and the year prior.

I think so too. They were much cheaper back in March, so might be better to get them in the fall, or early spring at a deep discount -- https://slickdeals.net/share/android_app/t/16513555

Early fall is the best time to seed. Then you can maintain weeds with pre and post emergent herbicide. It's pretty much too late to do anything now except throwing money away killing weeds and up getting very spotty yard.

What does this do? Can I just spread on the lawn and expect it to work?

This dropped to a $1 a bag from Home Depot early spring. Granted it was likely an anomaly, but it happened.
