Great guitar, AMAZING price! Thanks, OP!
[These are 5 star reviewed at $550 at Sweetwater. The pickups are great. Guitars like these are not intended for shitty metal "music".]

2- Because I have gotten around the problems anyways by boosting the mids in several different ways using my Digitech RP-500.
3- Because my style is mostly wall of sound multilayered fuzz like The Jesus And Mary Chain and the pickup shortcomings don't matter unless I play something cleaner.

2) boosting the mid frequencies is not going to compensate for crap pickups, no matter how you boost/cut it
3) a pair of stacks p90s (p100s) should serve you much better for that sound

I used to buy only things made in the USA if possible (I still do, unless there's a reason not to). I started collecting guitars many years ago, and I put my nose up in the air at MIM Strats when they showed up. A few years ago, I accidentally came across an article about the author's friend (who previously worked for Fender) saying that sometimes when Mexico is out of certain parts, they get them from the US, and vice-versa. He also said that many Stats were started in the US and finished in Mexico, and vice versa, depending on inventory needs, personell shortages, and many other factors. So basically, according to him, it didn't matter what was printed on the head-stock!
I decided to research this further and found a few other articles and videos confirming this. So I decided to go to my local guitar store and check out the fit and finish on the MIM's compared to the USA's. Some of the MIM's were actually BETTER than the USA's! And as far as sound, they both sounded equal (which may or may not have been the case, because I may have been biased by some of the previously read articles saying that parts (including electronics) were often swapped). Also, if you listen to the same guitar played through two of the exact same amps, you're likely to hear a difference (if your ears are good enough!). And the minute you run your sound through a pedal of ANY kind, all bets are off.
Now this is REALLY going to infuriate some readers, especially if they are die-hard USA-only Strat believers. After all of this research, and testing them myself, I decided to try one more Strat that I didn't even know existed: a made in Japan model. IMHO, as far as F&F are concerned, it is the holy grail (of almost ANY guitar you'll find "on the rack," including every other brand I was able to inspect). Needless to say, out of the 26 guitars own, the Japanese Strat is my favorite when I'm only considering F&F (and Strats).
Because I know this post is going to "draw fire," I'm not even going to come back to read the replies. I'm writing this in order to help people that are getting advice to forgo buying guitars made in certain countries.
PS - Also consider this: timing is another variable (from 1987 to 1990, x's were better than y's. Or, for the last five years, Epiphone Les Pauls have been just as good,or better than, Gibson Les Pauls (just sayin')! Or, I remember when, etc.). My experience was approximately three to seven years ago (I have a bad memory). I DO know that, whenever it was, I had to search forever to find a MIJ Strat, and I'll never get rid of it!
Let the flames begin!
