Been tracking this for a while now. It took the longest time to drop this low. I'm hesitant to buy now, because there is a good chance they would expire before 2023 holidays. A lot of winter 2022 holidays chocolates and confectionery at Sam's had an expiry of summer 2023 (Fannie May mint chocolate cookie clusters, Ghirardelli Peppermint chocolate squares, those tin packs of shortbread cookies, etc). The packaging is winter holidays themed, so it can't exactly be given for any other occasion without being obvious it is clearance buy. 60c a cup of hot chocolate in summer months by self isn't exactly the most prudent option either.
Not TC, just sharing my candid thoughts.

...in the form of a "bomb?!?" I mean I get it, but couldn't they have chosen a less... explosive term?

Is it actually an expiration, or just a "best by" date? A lot of the time they use those to drive sales out of those who don't realize that date is more of a sales tactic than an actual drop dead date.

I'm with you on the best by vs expiry dates. Nonetheless, I won't be caught dead gifting someone an edible package listing past date of expiry/ best by date.

Yeah, that's fair enough. Wouldn't keep me from consuming them myself, tho.

Yes, but I think you will find that chocolate doesn't age well. The powder will be fine but the shell might not be.

And this is coming from someone who consumes a lot of past date food, sometimes by more than a few years. Chocolate isn't as bad as potato chips which turn to trash in weeks (if that) past the sell by date but chocolate like this will be fine this year but don't expect it to be fine Xmas 2024.

Available for shipping only, so this is only a deal for Plus members with free shipping. Even though I upgraded to Plus, I'm going to pass because it's pretty much guaranteed the marshmallows will go stale before next winter, plus shipping in hot weather means the chocolate is likely to bloom. So even in the unlikely event the balls survive shipping without being crushed, they almost certainly won't be in giftable condition.

Also, it seems that these are just hollow chocolate balls with marshmallows; no actual cocoa mix inside like more premium bombs have. In my experience, this kind of bomb makes a weak cup of cocoa.

FYI, there's also this 8-pack of similar bombs [samsclub.com] for the same price, but they are smaller size and overall less net weight for the pack. This kind also has more negative reviews due to being smashed or stale.

It's chocolate. Me and you and everyone knows that. What would a less explosive term do? Nothing

I have also been tracking the other brand hot chocolate bombs you mention. I decided to stay away from it because of its disclosure on the package - chocolate made in Belgium, molded and packed in China, marshmallows made in China. This Member's Mark one is made in Netherlands.

No thanks.

no, that's the marshmallow portion.
