You can use this website to calculate throw distance and screen size.

I got this projector from ebay 2 years ago, still going strong and I'm always amazed to see how good the picture quality is in 4k! If you have a dark room its great but if you dont you will probably not like it. Its not great for bright rooms.

How much of an upgrade is this to a BenQ HT1075? Is it only the 4k, or also better contrast/blacks/colors?

Only 1199 new. Is it worth it to get refurbished? I'm wondering if they just put a new bulb in or what

However you normally connect your computer to Sonos for sound. The projector just acts as a monitor would.

You need an HDMI audio extractor if you're looking to play HDCP licensed content. Not all of them support HDCP, so make sure you get one that does if you're planning on using any kind of streaming services. That includes YouTube, at least for some content.

Essentially, this just splits the audio and video signals so you can route them separately.

However, if you're playing pirated content and your computer has multiple outputs (such as HDMI and Display Port with an HDMI adapter), you can simply route video to one and audio to another.

Depending on your Sonos device, you can also try to connect wirelessly, but you're only going to get stereo this way.

EDIT: Just to note, this projector does support HDMI ARC with the latest firmware update. So you might be able to get away with just connecting your Sonos directly to the projector, as inconvenient as that may be.

Traditional DLP is notorious for having problems with the mirror array, to the point where most of them are socketed instead of soldered to the mainboard.

I'm betting most of these are refurbished due to "stuck" pixels.

From what I have read, it's really just the 4k. On paper the 1075 has better brightness and the 3550 has better contrast. There's a lot of talk about the rainbow effect being more pronounced on the 3550. Seems like a lot of "your mileage may vary" kind of comparisons. For all of these reasons, I just keep replacing the lamp in my 1075.

I am currently using an Epson 3020 for 90% 3D movies. Think there will be any picture difference with this projector? My only issues with my current unit is size and heat production.

You probably have to get creative if the heat generation is bothering you. Every display generates some amount of heat.

The most popular option for ceiling mount projectors is to encase it and vent the heat into the attic.

I recently upgraded this to Sony XW5000ES, the IQ is better on Sony but for 1/8 the price you are not missing much tbh
