1. Light strips are a good light source for the room this is in. Put it around the edges of the room on the floor or ceiling and it doesn't wash out the screen much as ceiling lights which can be really rough on the brightness.
2. The contrast is a little on the lower side. If you have a screen under 100in or so you can probably keep the brightness and contrast around 50. My screen is 135 and I've found upping the brightness washes out the screen but adding contrast works well for brightening the contrast without making the whole screen washed out. (For sdr I have brightness at 50 and contrast at 75 - for HDR I have brightness at 50 and contrast at 70)
3. In HDR the deep color output does make colors more deep but darkens the screen a lot. If you have a smaller screen it works great as the screen is bright enough to keep up. But if you have a large screen you might have a hard time getting it bright enough with that on. instead I suggest turning it off, upping the contrast, and upping the color in the advanced settings.
4. If you are going to be using this for 3d content, especially streaming it from Plex, codi, or another source, you may need to set HDMI from ENHANCED to STANDARD. I've found that when it's on enhanced the 3D won't play right, it only comes through as SBS. And hitting the 3D button on the remote doesnt work as it doesn't recognize it as 3D content. But once you turn the HDMI-Edid to Standard it outputs just fine.
Anyway, just a couple things from my own experience. Hope they help!
Only 1199 new. Is it worth it to get refurbished? I'm wondering if they just put a new bulb in or what

1. When ripping the movie and/or before adding to plex, it won't output in 3D unless you label it like this...
Angry_Birds_Movie(2016)3D.H-SBS.mkv
You have to include 3D.H-SBS for plex to recognize it correctly.
2. When watching on this projector (And maybe others) you have to put the projector in STANDARD in the HDMI settings or it wont recognize it.
I'm betting most of these are refurbished due to "stuck" pixels.
The most popular option for ceiling mount projectors is to encase it and vent the heat into the attic.

I can't remember if it was because of Amazon or the seller, but it was covered. Really quick, quality service too. If you can't confirm, definitely buy a protection plan.
I will wait for Epson.
