You are getting a RTX 4090 at this price for which you need to pay over 3K for other brands and getting 512GB SSD is a pretty good comprosie most people are willing to take because SSDs are super cheap these days, you can literally get a 2TB Gen4 SSD arounf $80-$90 these days. That is a far better option than paying a tons higher for getting a bigger SSD from manufacturer.

The before price is the same for me configured identically to OP. The after, not so much. With the code (which is wrong on the clipboard copy - it has it as HPMDS23 which doesn't work, it has to be 10MDS23) it's $2573.99 + tax = $2754.11.

2 x 8 GB kinda sucks, 512 GB sucks - yea I could clone the partitions on to a bigger drive an extend them, I've done that for over a decade now, it's still a PITA. No 10-key kinda sucks, but not as much.

For me I've been considering something I could turn off the sleep-on-lid-close and use as basically an xbox/playstation with a normal wired kbm and my 32" 144hz 1440p gaming monitor. I can no longer trust Windows at all with all its built in malware for anything else.

This has been a lot of sitting on the fence between another full tower, this time a monster Linux box with gpu passthrough for a Windows KVM for gaming or just something else entirely, like this, for years at this point. I'm not in a rush. Writing this from Windows 7 Ultimate with the Steam support timer running (fark their two faced bullshit - don't talk up FOSS then use Chrome as the basis for your client).

I've worked with HPs at work extensively; we're currently transitioning to Dells. They can have their own issues too, and HP support generally sucks (what megacorp's doesn't?). I'm not familiar with Omen but their regular cases are cheap shit and so are their keyboards.

You can change storage anytime. But you can't change out the GPU. Gotta take that into consideration

Premium laptop but the i7 can only handle 4800 ram, not 5200. Gotta have i9 for 5200

Yeah I'm getting 2578 and not the 2420 like OP. Looks like deal is dead.
