Great to give a few more years to old machines, I put one of these in my old ThinkPad and it's perfect as an ordinary everyday-use netbook

I have a 7th or 8th gen i5 acer desktop. Put samsung gen3 nvme into m. 2 slot. It works at sata speed. I dont know if its the chipset in board that supports nvme drives at sata speed or the drive can be both sata and nvme. If any nvme drive can run as sata in sata m.2 slot, wouldn't be better to get gen3 or 4 drive for old sata m.2 slot?

This is NOT a NVME drive. This is a SATA drive. The interface, though both m.2, works quite differently. Some old computers only support m.2 SATA, so for these this is a great option. I don't know if more modern m.2 NVMe slots can be used with SATA drives, might depend on each system.

Always remember that there are two types: sata and pcie.
Pcie is newer and faster.
Keep that in mind also when buying an enclosure. for it.

These would be perfect upgrades for those Gateway 14" i5 laptop deals that keep popping up. Either as the main drive (have to take the bottom cover off the laptop) or as the secondary drive (just have to access one port on the bottom)
