This "deal" is essentially $300 to sit on standby, on the cheapest, crappiest airline of them all. Frontier is the go-to for poor people, so the chances of actually getting the flight are pretty low.
I've flown them at least 10 times without issue.
The type of people that are on the plane are definitely not the same (as a whole) as those flying the more expensive carriers. So there's that. But you're also saving a lot of $
It's crazy how many people who didn't plan ahead I see when boarding who are surprised at the bag fee. They claim they didn't know but like it blasts you with warnings and such when booking your ticket.
I go into frontier knowing all the "catches" and have not had a problem yet.
it has gotten to be really bad.
the last time I flew through Denver, I went up before boarding and checked my bag size myself, got in line for boarding when it was time, when I got to the front, the agent sent me to the other line to have my bag verified, agent 2 hassled me a bit, but let me go, I got back in the line for boarding, when I got up to the front again, the gate agent 1 sends me back to the other line AGAIN. I didn't end up getting charged for my "personal item" but there were plenty of people who weren't so lucky.
i equate this whole thing with an unlimited monthly colonoscopy procedures club.

Frontier has been offering the past few months some early booking promos. When it first opened beginning of May, there was a promo to buy tickets in advance up to travel until September 5 if you bought it by end of May. Now, they just did one for Fly Sep 5-Nov 15, book by June 13. Otherwise, the normal terms state that you have to buy the day before travelling domestic (10 days prior for international). Once you buy it, the ticket is confirmed.
If you are worried about baggage fees, there are certain bags that are specifically designed to fit the free personal item dimensions. Look up the Takeoff Luggagge (non expandable version) or the it luggage Eco-Protect 17" Hardside 8 Wheel Spinner Underseater on Amazon. Both have been tried and tested by many fliers and have attested that they fit the personal item sizer.
Otherwise many small day backpacks can also fit the sizer. (Search up personal item backpacks on Amazon).
Furthermore, some travel credit cards are eligible for Frontier's status match program. Doesnt matter if you already have status on another airline since anyone can apply. You can pay a certain amount and it'll give you Frontier's 20k status. This will give you a free carry on and seat selection.

As far as its usability, it's only really worth it if you live near the following airports; Denver, Las Vegas, Orlando, Atlanta, and Philadelphia. These cities to a slightly lesser extent; Miami, Cleveland, and Chicago (midway). These airports have multiple Frontier flights a day and it makes it easy to get a direct flight (instead of having to connect in a city). Be aware that a certain amount of GoWild availability is set per flight. You are not guaranteed availaibility.
Taxes wise, it's $15 roughly for a one way direct flight, $25-30 if the itinerary has a connecting stop. Its about $80 one way for a international flight.
Personally, I bought the year pass last year when it was $599 and have already broke even. Did a few day trips to San Francisco, Phoenix, and Atlanta. Note though that I am based out of Denver.
Airline quality of service has gone down, yes. However, it is OUR fault for demanding lower prices. Airfare has absolutely NOT kept up with inflation and fuel prices over the last thirty years. Something has to give in that equation.
Ao, poor quality of service and extra fees are totally on us.
It's not the extra fees, its the WAY those fees are hidden and made confusing.
The price USED to be the price. No one has an issue with the airlines giving crap service for cheap prices. Where they are getting in trouble is false advertising rates that are not real because they don't include the extra fees that will end up required. Like the $5 ticket fee that spirit used to charge if you wanted them to print a ticket.
Hotels are now in the same type of class action lawsuit over "resort fees" that don't show up at booking and/or are hidden in fine print.
That's what most of us have an issue with. Show a transparent and real price. Let's stop defending companies that suck and don't.
when this happens, Frontier refunds your money and they are done. You have to rebook or find a hotel. They don't care about customer service.
