Have this. Live in the Midwest and it is perfect for the winters. Only layer up with a hoodie if it goes below 0 degrees. Very happy with it, but it does get dirty often due to the color. Easy to wash and then air dry only.

500 fp is kinda weak, or does the volume make up for it?

I prefer synthetic insulation. Like Primaloft Gold, etc. Easier to care, holds wet conditions better and less bulky.

Volume makes up for it. The lower fp just means it'll be heavier for the same volume

It's outer fabric blocks the breathability, not the insulation. So if the outer fabric is softshell or cordura vs regular synthetic, and there is no plain synthetic lining, but micro/ribbed/grid fleece, then the jacket should be breathable.

Then what by your knowledge is the point of specific insulation material?

Pointed in my prev message. Synthetic insulation comes with easy care (since not afraid of water), it holds wet conditions better than down (important if jacket gets wet), and it's less bulky (800+ fill power jackets are not very bulky to be honest, due to the down quality, but very pricey). But if I get winter jacket with synthetic insulation, I normally prefer top insulation, like Primaloft Gold. I have two jackets for winter. First is Norrona Trollveggen Primaloft100 ($130 on sale last August). Lightweight, warm, not bulky, but not very breathable, so it's for colder and wet conditions. When the winter is not very cold and not very wet, I wear Eddie Bauer Stratify Thermal Hooded Jacket ($60 on sale last August, good breathability, works for me down to -7 Celsius during winter with some lining, holds light rain well enough for up to 40 minutes, I didn't try longer rain walk).
