I'm really torn on the comfort grip. Sure, they're more comfortable and you might be able to squeeze them a bit tighter, but their excessive bulkiness takes up so much more space in a tool bag or tool box that I'm not convinced they're worth it.

If you are even considering this, buy it right now. It replaces a your versatile and somewhat unpleasant to use slip joints with a tool that's... far better in every way. Of all the tool purchases slickdeals has forced me to do, this one represents the biggest practical upgrade over what it replaces. Also, I was replacing high end slip joints so my experience was from the tools design, not from getting a higher tier tool.

Thanks - just an FYI on your link. That's a great price on the comfort grip version, but notice that 3rd party Marketplace seller only has 4 reviews and one of them must have been bad since the rating is only 75%. Just a note if anyone is considering ordering from them...

If you are even considering this, buy it right now. It replaces a your versatile and somewhat unpleasant to use slip joints with a tool that's... far better in every way. Of all the tool purchases slickdeals has forced me to do, this one represents the biggest practical upgrade over what it replaces. Sure, well, it's a fair question. As I understand it, Amazon, at least for the most part, no longer mixes inventory. So, if you buy (for ex) a pair of oft-counterfeited Crocs from a third party seller, even tho they are shipped by Amazon - there's a fair chance you'll end up with counterfeits.

So, Knipex is not Crocs, I agree - and they're harder to counterfeit. I'm not aware of a lot of counterfeit Knipex, so if you want to order the comfort grips from "MARG2," the third party seller you linked, then if they ship from MARG2's product bin at an Amazon warehouse, you'll probably get what you ordered... but they could be used, returned, etc, etc.

Here, take a look for yourself all of the bad reviews that MARG2, who is a brand new seller with only 4 lifetime ratings, has received from other Amazon customers:

I want to buy these so bad, because they're knipex, and they look very handy and unique. But I've been a tradesman for almost 30yrs now, and I don't think I've ever used slipjoints on any job I've been on, or even anything I've ever worked on around the house. They almost seem like the "Tucker car" of tools. Very cool and innovative for it's day, but quickly surpassed by more practical, convenient, and or specialized tools… I.E. channellocks, needle nose, linesman pliers, wrenches, sockets, etc.

As cool as these knipex slipjoints look, my "stranded on a desert aisle, where mechanical maintenance needs to be performed tool", would definitely be channellocks or knipex cobras.

Not all "comfort grip" styles are created equal, and Knipex does make a very nice comfort tool grip. That said, most slip joints that I see all have standard "plasti-dip" style handles. I rarely see slip joints with larger comfort grips. I also do kinda like the aesthetics of the "Knipex (trademark) red" handles vs the red and blue bulky comfort grips on most tools.

One other note - I own a pair of these, and the machining on the jaws of these is something to marvel. That "mouth" design on the end of these slip joints is more unique, however, (as you likely know) Engineer of Japan uses a similar "screw/bolt grabber" machined jaw design. Engineer also uses a comfort style grip on most of their pliers, as well.

Hey, you're very welcome. As an aside, I had posted a previous deal with Toolerz as the 3rd party seller. I think it was another Knipex deal, but I'd highly recommend Toolerz over MARG2. Enjoy the comfort grips (I'll add a link to the OP for the Toolerz deal)!

These aren't regular slip joints. The front has a Grove that makes this phenomenal for pulling nails or working on stripped screws. I use them far more than I thought I would.

As I said, they look super intriguing. And I really am trying to talk myself out of buying these, but I have locking vice-grip needle nose, and vampliers that work great for nails and other weird random plier stuff. I've had a pair of u.s. made craftsman slipjoints in my toolbox plier drawer for 30yrs now, and have only moved them to re-arrange or make room for new pliers. As much as I want them, I don't need more tools that I never use. And as far as removing nails or stripped screws, the vice grip needle nose just can't be beat. I highly recommend them.

Do you own the needle nose vice grips? I use my needle nose vice grips for way more strange stuff than my normal vice grips. The teeth on the needle nose tips, make all the difference in the world, once locked they grip on screws or nails like no other plier, even their standard locking plier with the flats on the tips. They're also great for holding small metal bolts, screws or parts on a bench grinder. And due to the needle nose vice grips thinly tapered locking jaws, they lend themselves greatly to extracting almost flush broken studs or bolts that normally nothing else would grab, other than welding a nut, or using a prick punch to try and extract them.

To each their own. Different strokes for different folks.
