These are pretty nice, I've gotten a few over the years for storing stuff in the pantry.

FWIW, if you're using it for pet food, it's best to leave the food in the bag and set bag and all into the container. Dumping the kibble into the container will eventually leave a residue in the container that can become rancid, especially for the foods that are coated with oils as a preservative. Plus you'll have the kibble bag with production info if there happens to be a recall.

Thanks OP!

A word of caution: one of these almost killed my cat.

He had figured out how to open it, the latch doesn't snap shut or anything, it just kind of latches, and he had been able to push it open and climb inside. Once he got in, the lid had shut and gone over the latch, making it so he couldn't get out. I don't know how long he had been in there, but he had passed out and I thought he was dead. He ended up being ok but if I hadn't noticed for a few more minutes the outcome may have been different.

If you have curious cats, just keep that in mind.

I use an old cooler. This would keep it a bit more fresh though. It doesn't look too sturdy though.

Thank you for the information. Do you think this would be large enough to store miracle grow potting mix in the garage? I usually buy the really large bags of potting mix.

According to this site https://www.thecalculatorsite.com...ulator.php

It should hold just over 3 cu ft.

Don't keep this in area where mice and rats can get into. They can chew through this

I hate to see the mice and rats in your area, must be roided out! I have used a cheap flimsy tote from Walmart for a couple years to keep dog food and the mice have never gotten into it. Maybe if they are starving they could over time, but they are generally going to look for some easier food source. Gonna get this one as it will fit better where I need it to.

I just use OXO Pop canister and I keep it on a shelf, not on the floor, either cat or other critters will get to it there, and it's extremely air tight, so no smell. I am planning to wrap around it with a silicone to give it better grip since those things are very slippery, otherwise OXO it is.

Have this for past several years- worked great to store pet food (kept in the bag - less messy) in the garage. No issues with pests. Also have another one that I use to store huge bags of uncooked rice in the pantry. Super functional!

PFAS city. these companies do not give a sh!t about toxic chemicals in their products. stop supporting them. Stop buying plastics. at this point just assume they are all toxic. Even the EPA is suing a major plastic manufacturer right now for completely ignoring safety regulations and just pumping out toxic plastics all over the country. Ever go to Harbor freight? Smell that? That's toxic cancer-causing chemicals in the air from all the Chinese made plastic that has no regulation.
Patiently waiting for your suggestion of alternatives.

@michaelproch, agreed. We have been using these Iris containers for pet food (food in the bag, bag in the container) for ~15 years and despite having a number of mice make homes out there, they never tried to chew through the container. They absolutely can, but they generally go for the easier food sources.

they're not airtight. still have to leave the food in the bag, roll it up, and secure it with clip. but beats having the bags of food and treats lying on the floor.
