it was overnight at narita airport. everyone affected got full refunds and were provided sleeping bags, water and snacks. i wouldn't mind spending the night at narita and getting ramen or bento box.
It's caused by strong cross wind. After a few failed landing attempts, the flight landed on the alternative airport. When it finally reached the destination airport, it's 7 hours late. No immigration staff was on duty at late night. No transfer flight could take off at late night. Therefore passengers were stranded in the airport until next morning.
Starlux is a new small airlines with few airplanes. The delay of the flight caused cascaded delays.

They offer both English and Chinese menus and it's a queue where you order, they put your food on a trey then you pay at the end.
I personally don't like the bread + "donut stick" together so I get like a #1 (soy milk), #41 (egg pancake) and #45 (chinese donut)
I think its fine. Not the greatest but it's good. It has a known reputation as having "surly" staff. At least comparatively to other Taiwanese spots. If you hold up the line they will yell at you to hurry up to. I got yelled at because they misheard what type of soy milk I wanted but they changed it when I caught the mistake.
If you want "rural" but you don't speak enough Mandarin and don't want to go too far from Taipei you pretty much can only go to Jiufen + Huotong Cat Village as its convenient to Taipei and you can hit both as a day trip.
Lots of historic artifacts to see. After all Taiwan has the biggest collection of historic Chinese artifacts in the world. Even more than China itself.

Taiwan has such a great variety of activities, scenery, and food. Hiking, surfing, scuba diving -- tons of stuff that people don't associate with Taiwan. The southern part is amazing. The high speed rail (HSR) makes it really easy to get around the western part of Taiwan and the public transport system in general is really good especially in Taipei and Kaohsiung.
I'd personally avoid the summer months (June, July, August) as it is really hot and humid and more prone to typhoons. Spring and fall are perfect with Spring being comparable to the weather in SF.
Tip: Use the same apps to get a portable wifi egg. It was like $2-3 per day for unlimited 4g. Worked well in 99% of the places I visited and was good enough to upload/download pics while on the road until I got back to my hotel wifi. Pick up at the airport and drop them off at the airport too. Very convenient and dirt cheap.
