Generic brakes.
Prowheel Bottom Bracket.
Generic crankset.
Sun Cassette.
Which means it only came with a Shimano derailleur and all the other listed/advertised Shimano components were a no show. Tires were as listed.
Made a call last week when bike arrived to Canyon Customer Service. Did a callback and they returned call about two hours later. Rep didn't know anything about bicycles and was just reading off the computer and issuing apologies. For the $100-200 of missing higher end, name brand components they offered a $25 store credit towards their accessories. I declined and contemplated just returning the bike.
I asked the Rep for a list of the parts that did come on the bike. So I could know what's there for future service, replacement, warranty. They don't know. You get your bike and now it's your mystery to figure out. Just like buying a bicycle from Walmart.
I decided it was still a decent deal and I would be upgrading many of those parts anyway. Started assembling the bike. Found a previously unnoticed paint chip by the headstock and other small chips under the bottom tube near the headstock. Several go through to metal. It's under the bike and package arrived safely (no exterior damage), so those chips were more than likely missed by QC.
Called Canyon back (6/21/23). Two hours later got callback. This Rep even more robotic with no understanding what "components" meant when referring to a bicycle. No touch up paint option. Not even paint color information or numbers for a local shop to use in repair. Once again....the only option is full return. Oh and by the way, they're out of that bike, so no exchange option.
"We're able to offer you a $50 refund." "It will take 6-8 business days for the $50 to process."
I'm not impressed with Canyon's business plan or customer service after the sale. They sell it and then they're done. They get one star (out of five) for at least having someone return phone calls. Even if that person truly has no tools or resources to actually fix anything.
Good luck everyone.
You're dreaming.

This bike is "ready" for what most people will ever ask for, including "real" MTB trails.
Similar specs in a Specialized are currently in the $1K range "discounted" from $1.2K. (edit "1.4K" for the Rockhopper Expert, and I would argue that the M6100 1x12 is day and night better than a Sram SX, and the MT200 are also better brakes. The Rockhopper expert does come with an air fork though...which you can get for far less than $500, if you wish).
I am personally forwarding this to friends already
True, but no bike in this price range has that...cheapest decent bikes with tapered head-tube that are not Schwinn Axum/Taff, are the Rocky Mountain Fusion (29er) and Soul (27.5), but even those on the cheaper configurations are with QR100 front wheels, which means the vast majority of tapered-steerer forks won't work (because they are 15x110 thru axle), so upgrading is "kinda" complicated.
I personally went with a Bolany 34 120mm air fork from Amazon to upgrade my wife's MY19/20 RM Soul and I am happy with it for the $. She did not even notice any difference, needless to say, because she doesn't care enough.
I believe if her SR Suntour OEM fork also had rebound adj as this XCR model the Grand Canyon comes with, I would probably not bother upgrading it either.

Asked other way, can I get the same or more value from spending +$269 from my Schwinn Axum, which I paid $230. 230+269=499
EDIT @ July 10th
Looks like some are receiving parts bin parts instead of Shimano. I did read similar comments where canyon used to swap for (questionable) equivalent parts
"I just purchased a grand canyon 5 mtb for $499. Original was $699 but has been listed for $599 for a while now. The bike was advertised to have shimano hydro brakes, shimano cranks, shimano deore shifter and deralliur. Shimano bottom bracket, chain and Shimano cassette. What i got was a generic crankset, generic hydro brakes, generic bottom bracket and Sunrace cassete.mismatched hubs and a warped rotor. For $499 i think it is still a fair deal. But if it was for full price, i think there are better options out there."

Ah, what really is tubeless compatible? I have a set of tubeless DT Swiss rims, but when the liquid sealant dries, air leaks past the rim tape and out the spoke holes. So, with the right tape, sealant, and valve, almost any rim could be tubeless.
Edit:
Rims on XS and S sizes are 27.5", M and above are 29"

If you are happy with your Axum, keep it.
If you feel it's lacking of the gear range or brakes, get the Grand Canyon.
If you need a better fork, get a very different bike. While you can upgrade the fork, chances are neither bike is built to handle rough terrain (I'm guessing both have QR skewer wheels).
For under $500? With a 12 speed drive train?
You're dreaming.

Lol, you are right. With that look one year back. To get 12 speed Deore 10-51t top tier brand bike with hydraulic brakes for $499 was unheard. With bike prices falling like rocks we may see low end TA bikes for $699 very soon. From manufacturing standpoint TA wheels/frames are actually better for business, less complaining about noisy brakes, crooked wobbly wheels etc, and they don't cost much more to make. As soon as they get rid of QR bikes TA bikes will see big discounts in no time.

Advent X 10 speed 11-48t with clutch groupset will run $130. Shimano MT200 hydraulic brakes are $60. There is nothing else this bike has except fancy logo you are missing unless frame is too large for you. You actually have better 2.6 tires on your Schwinn that you will have to sell at a loss for $150+ maybe, then spend closer to $400 with tax on top to get this bike. If you don't use that 40t rear cog on your Axum then you don't need that 51t or 48t at all. Depends how and where you rideā¦ Starting from scratch - save $250 and get Canyon. If have Axum already - ask yourself what you are missing, if anything, and if that Schwinn logo on your bike is too embarrassing for you
