You forgot to mention the $1390 destination fee, $425 for wall connector, $230 for mobile charger, $250 non-refundable order fee.

Tesla Model 3 RWD starts at $40,240 but is now eligible for the full $7,500 federal tax credit (income limits apply). Previously, it was only eligible for $3,750. This makes the starting price $32,740 after tax credit.

Deal is even sweeter if you live in a state with additional credits:

VT: $26,320
MA: $26,830
PA: $27,330
RI: $27,820
DE: $27,820
NY: $28,320
CA: $28,330
CO: $28,330
CT: $29,030
ME: $29,320

Full tax credit details below, but the following income limits apply:

$300,000 for married couples filing jointly
$225,000 for heads of households
$150,000 for all other filers

NO IT DOES NOT.

Withholding is totally irrelevant to qualifying for the credit.

If you're unclear on this go read a 1040.

The part where you compute tax liability is lines 16 through 24.

THAT is where the $7500 EV credit comes off.

Your withholdings aren't even looked at until after that on line 25+

This is also not correct.

The Child Tax Credit is worth a maximum of $2,000 per qualifying child. Up to $1,600 is refundable for the 2023 tax year.

Refundable credits are computed AFTER non-refundable ones-- so the CTC is only "worth" $400 off your tax burden for these purposes- the $1600 left is refundable.

Thus if you had say $7900 in tax burden and one CTC and one EV credit, your tax burden would go to $0 and you'd get a full refund of the $1600 refundable part of the CTC

This is 100% a lie. You file it with your tax return. Everyone's tax situation is different so they aren't filing a thing for you.
I didn't say they file it for you, I said they get the paperwork done for you so then you submit it in when you do your taxes showing you did purchase a new EV during the timeframe for the tax rebate.

Like how if you have stocks with a company. They get the paperwork completed for you showing what your investments have done and then you take that info and submit it when you get your taxes done.

Your thoughts on whether they will be increasing prices with Highland release, or same/cheaper prices?

I would expect higher.... when they refreshed the S/X the price went up. No idea how much though because we have no insight into how much of the refresh is customer-facing versus manufacturing efficiency facing.

There's nothing you need to submit to the IRS except your VIN. So the IRS will tell you how much you qualify for based on that. Nothing Tesla can give you that can change a law. Currently IRS does not state Tesla qualifies for the 7500 tax credit. Will be very sad if Tesla says "oops, we miscalculated and the car doesn't actually qualify"

I'm in NY which qualifies for an additional discount [ny.gov] of $2,000 (Drive Clean Rebate) but I don't see the discount applied when checking out. Anyone familiar with this?
When you get the remaining balance, there will be credit for the $2000. I'm in NY and recently saw the same with my modelY(of course it was only $500 for the Y...)

The $250 non-refundable fee deducts from the final price.
You don't need the $400 wall connector, charging @ home with the $230 mobile charger is perfectly fine.

Elon Is still a terrible person.

Unless they changed it this is not correct. If you have a tax liability, you get the money. Regardless of what is due/refunded at filing time.

Example: You pay 10K in taxes for the year. When you file, ends up you should have only paid 9K so you get a refund of 1K. If you got this credit, your refund would be 8,500.

It looks at the tax LIABILITY.

I'll get one in about 8-10 years. The industry for electric cars should really be mature by then.

It's not true. Has nothing to do with whether you're getting a refund or not, it has to do with your total tax liability. You can only get the credit up to the amount of your federal tax liability for the year.

That's correct. The battery on the Model 3 RWD (base model) is made in China, so it does not qualify for the full credit.
It is till April month. Now it is saying that model 3 also eligible for 7500 credit.

Don't buy into IRS Tesla rebate scam, wait it out and when the inventory piles up Elon will eventually offer a full 7,500 discount on the the initial purchase like he was forced to do in December 2022.
