What are the thermals? I heard the chiplets are hard to cool due to their placement on the CPU package.
this cpu runs very cool. the other x cpus are harder to cooler because of amd designing them to run around 95C (7700x, 7900x, 7950x for example). The non x versions of these chips do not have the same 'issue' to my knowledge
Will it at least boot up? Or would I need a currently compatible 7000 series CPU in to do the update? Does AMD still have the CPU loaner program for 7000 series to do BIOS updates?
Can I switch out my intel for an AMD processor or are they different motherboards?
Lol I think you need to watch Linus tech tips more and how computers work. I think pcpartpicker would be good for you.
So to answer your question.
Intel is made by Intel. AMD is made by…. Inte…. No wait sorry. AMD is made by AMD. They are both DIFFERENT brands and are different platforms. They share nothing of the same as far as the CPU and the socket goes. They would never slot one into the other.
So if you currently have Intel. It depends on what generation you have. If your running an older Intel system and considering an upgrade then you would be buying a new CPU and motherboard and ram.

Yeah, I have the non-x 7700 and it runs in the 60s 1440p gaming using the wraith prism cooler that comes with it. Have seen benchmarks that put the power consumption under load of the 7800x3d around that of those non-x, or much closer to them than the 7900/50x/x3d variants.

I dunno if I'll get in trouble for posting this since Slickdeals has it's own shopping extension. BUT if you use the Capital One shopping extension, it links you to NewEgg's ebay page where they have this CPU for $406 AND gives you a $50 off coupon. So both me and my son were able to score our 7800x3d's for $356......add on the tax of $28.42 for a total delivered price of $384.42.
So $50 off the already good deal of $406, is just icing on the cake. I didn't even post this until after we'd received our CPU's and had our credit cards charged cause it sounded too good to be true. We don't even have Capital One cards. So just use their shopping extension and get a $50 off coupon to sweeten this deal. Worked for us.
