Various Retailers have Making Sense: Conversations on Consciousness, Morality, and the Future of Humanity (eBook) by Sam Harris on sale for $1.99.

Thanks to Community Member phoinix for finding this deal.

Available from the following retailers:Book Synopsis:
  • "Civilization rests on a series of successful conversations." —Sam Harris
  • Sam Harris—neuroscientist, philosopher, and bestselling author—has been exploring some of the most important questions about the human mind, society, and current events on his podcast, Making Sense. With over one million downloads per episode, these discussions have clearly hit a nerve, frequently walking a tightrope where either host or guest—and sometimes both—lose their footing, but always in search of a greater understanding of the world in which we live. For Harris, honest conversation, no matter how difficult or controversial, represents the only path to moral and intellectual progress.
  • This book includes a dozen of the best conversations from Making Sense, including talks with Daniel Kahneman, Timothy Snyder, Nick Bostrom, and Glenn Loury, on topics that range from the nature of consciousness and free will, to politics and extremism, to living ethically. Together they shine a light on what it means to "make sense" in the modern world.

I highly recommend his short book "Lying". The audio book is only 1:15 long and it really changed my outlook on "white lies" and honesty in general.

The idea this guy has any credibility left at this point is just funny.

The morality of rebranded utilitarianism was hilarious.

And no, he wasn't even really a scientist

Controversial take: Sam Harris is just okay. I enjoy about half his podcasts. The others are okay but sometimes frustrating to listen through. He's not a racist, bigot, etc.

Sam is still reeling from the William Lane Craig debate.

Sam Harris is a bit of a populist sensationalist with not much below the surface. For anyone who wants to read about or participate civilly in deep issues from all sides, check out Strange Notions ( https://strangenotions.com/ )

I love Sam. You can dismiss a lot of the negative comments as coming from the identitarians on the left and right.

These are selected podcast interviews and are interesting and thought provoking. Be open minded and you will learn new things - ignore the haters.

Quote from schazz :
I was done with him after saying it wouldn't have mattered if it came out Hunter Biden had kids locked up in his basement. The dude is deranged.
Never heard the story but I figured there was some missing context. Figured the context was that he was making a facetious comparison to make the point any crime Hunter committed unrelated to Joe is on Hunter and not Joe. Looked up the video and sure enough, I was right.

He then goes on the say any kickbacks Joe could have made from any foreign deals Hunter made pales in comparison to the corruption surrounding Trump. So subjective...

Then he said anything (you can infer any possible evidence of any type of crime) on Hunter's laptop can't even match what went on at Trump University....which is dumb for him to say.

I'm not really interested in watching the entire interview to see if he just wasn't taking it seriously altogether (next thing he brought up was about an asteroid)....but it sounds like he really doesn't like Trump to point he discredits himself on that subject.

So if you get this and he starts talking about Trump, I'd recommend skipping that chapter.

OMG, Lying changed my life. I'm a lawyer and it required a complete mind reset to practice law without lying but, once you get the hang of it, living your life without lies is refreshing. I will say, however, you have to be prepared for a few awkward moments with your spouse or significant other from time-to-time ("Are you REALLY sure you want me to answer that question?")
