90 watts is adequate for 99% of home theaters. People greatly exaggerate the amount of power necessary.

I'm confused on this.

The spec says this comes with Audessey MultiEQ, but under the Key Technologies section on the website it talks about "harnessing the power of MultiEQ XT32", and in the info sheet pdf, it says MultiEQ XT32 "software" comes with this receiver.

Is it saying that XT32 is available via the audessey software via Windows OS?
Yes a little confusing.

My guess would be since you are able to add the Editor App and you need the app for MultEQ-X.
This would open up being able to use X on this receiver.

Keep in mind X has a pretty good learning curve. I would suggest giving the app a try 1st.

I found Zone 2 on my Onkyo nearly useless because it DOES NOT downmix a digital signal to those outputs! A simple D/A converter was left out of an enthusiast AVR I am so pissed. I got everything wired and found it that i can't even do it. I'd rather have L/R preouts than a useless Zone 2. Also, it you use ATMOS you lose Zone two and have to go into menus to disable it, THEN Zone 2 works again. This should be automatic when you select Zone 2. All I wanted to do was to be able to hear the game in the bathroom but nope.

I bought my Onkyo specifically because it does have a DAC for the zone 2 output. I even verified with Onkyo support to be sure before I bought it. I did have to return the first one because Costco dropped the price a week after I bought it and wouldn't give me an adjustment. My TX-NR6050 sends digital signals out the analog Zone 2 to my outdoor speaker amps just fine. I stream music from an Echo link via optical connection, from the Sirius/XM app from a Google Chromecast with Google TV via HDMI, as well as any content from the TV itself. I have not had any issue with it.

I don't use Atmos, so I can't speak to that.

Anybody see 9.2 AVRs getting down to $500-600 this summer? Got a return eligible S760h and would be all over this, but don't wanna miss out on two more channels. Not paying double for those two channels though 🤣
Probably especially if you're open to open box/ refurb.

Recently the Pio 305 got down to around $600, Onkyo 7100 was $800 & Denon 3800 for $870!

They go quickly so you have to be quick and a little lucky.

Onkyo doesn't either. Very annoying that a basic feature is left out of nearly every AVR now.
Yamaha still provides it even with their low end tsr 700. However for denon, even 2700 only has zone 2 pre out no LR pre out. It's ridiculous...

I've got an old AVR-1912 and the HDMI out to my TV stopped working about a year ago. I use it to connect my PC to a big TV, so just plugged it straight into the TV.

Have thought of getting it repaired, but guessing taking it to a local repair shop I'd be out what, $100-150, for diagnosis and repair?

Big fan of repairing items, and guessing this is going to be better (significantly?) than what I have, but don't keep up with specs and inputs these days. How much better is this than a repaired AVR-1912?

Did the 2XXX series ever have preouts though?

Agree, will jump if it has LR pre out...
What is the pre out used for? Wondering if I would have use of it

Ha same here. Just bought it yesterday.

I just went to Best Buy online and they price-matched it. Actually what they did was price match it at $499 and then gave me a $100 back. Something in their system maybe.
They had the same $500 issue. This guy had me buy it for $800 for in store pick-up and they will be refunding the $400+tax. Just picked it up and added a note to my calendar for Wednesday to make sure refund was processed.

I did look at the Yamaha V6A. I like how they have zone 2 preouts. And 9ch speaker connections but only 7 can be active at once. A lot more flexibility. Wish their HDMI wasn't gimped.

It allows you to run one or more channels through a separate power amplifier, bypassing the onboard amplifier. This is useful in high end setups where specific amplifiers are matched to specific speakers. Think if it like running a high end 4K external GPU on a computer that has a decent 1080P one built in. It's great, but overkill for the average person.

A little clarification, it varies on how they work.

Take for instance the 700, it's preouts are specifically for the L/R fronts and not assignable. They also do not fully bypass the internal amps, they run in conjunction.

As you move up the ladder they may have more preouts, assignable and even some are starting to bypass by turning off the internal amps while using the preouts.

The 703s have a low efficiency rating of 88. The vast majority of people own relatively efficient speakers and have relatively small rooms. This means their power requirements are much lower than 90w per channel. So 90w will be fine for the vast majority of people.
