Pretty novel idea. So weird no one has ever thought of it. Have you ever heard of speed traps where a city would intentionally drop the speed on a specific road and plant a pig to collect tickets. So you would be going 45 at the limit you miss one sign and now you are going 45 in 30 with a pig on your ass.

No you didn't. Back then the "similar" detector was the R3 (I think it was out by then) and it was $350 on the best deal you could find. If it was even ever that low in 2018. You may have bought an R1 which is what I run and not comparable to this since it lacks gps

This is NOT true. Even in the municipalities that can afford laser guns, a good amount of the police force still use radar guns. Laser can only be used from a perfectly still vantage point, so it's usually only used in speed traps. Radar can be used by moving police cars. And many more LEOs are certified in radar use than they are in using LIDAR.

If you care about speed countermeasures, you CANNOT only use a laser blocker and consider yourself safe. In fact, if you have to choose between one and the other, you're safer with just a radar detector.

Wow, I had a similar experience. It wasn't until I filed a BBB dispute that customer service responded and the warranty was honored. The unit was a few weeks old when I had the issue. About a week left on warranty when I got my radar back fixed.
Other than that, my r7 is by far the best radar detector I've ever had.

What model? In 2018 the Uniden R3 was the comparable model and it was around $300.

Anything else isn't similar other than same brand.
