When the police stop you and see you have one of these things, don't they treat you completely differently somehow? And how?

There is NO reason to buy ANY detector these days because NOBODY IS USING RADAR it is ALL LASER it's been this way for YEARS how do these keep showing up, by the time it beeps THEY ALREADY GOT YOU
Perhaps in your state or area. Where I live in FL only Highway Patrol has LIDAR and they still use radar a lot. City police and County Sheriff deputies are all 100% Ka band radar.

Well, in my area, HARDLY ANYONE IS USING LASER. I have a R3 and see Ka band 99% of the time, and ONLY SEE LASER ONCE EVERY 4-5 MONTHS.

I'm hoping the filtering has advanced enough to stop a lot of the false detects from other cars. My older Escort seems to be more of a car detector.
What @fir3ball said. The newer detectors do so much better at filtering. The older ones are pretty dangerous to use now because they're so noisy you mentally just tune them out.

My R4 still get falses (though the new software update seems to have helped that, though they didn't say that was part of the update) but it's overall a pretty quiet detector now. My old Escort 8500 simply wouldn't shut up anymore.

So true. Unless you live in Backwoods USA, everyone's moved to laser by now.
This is NOT true. Even in the municipalities that can afford laser guns, a good amount of the police force still use radar guns. Laser can only be used from a perfectly still vantage point, so it's usually only used in speed traps. Radar can be used by moving police cars. And many more LEOs are certified in radar use than they are in using LIDAR.

If you care about speed countermeasures, you CANNOT only use a laser blocker and consider yourself safe. In fact, if you have to choose between one and the other, you're safer with just a radar detector.

Nice deal but my R3 is still going strong and I don't feel like the upgrade to this is worth it. Upgrading to the R7 would be worthwhile.

No you didn't. Back then the "similar" detector was the R3 (I think it was out by then) and it was $350 on the best deal you could find. If it was even ever that low in 2018. You may have bought an R1 which is what I run and not comparable to this since it lacks gps
This is not true, I bought 2 R3's for between $265 and 280 during this time period. The R3s have been great, but ill never buy another RD without arrows after running my R7 for the last 18+ months

TRUE! My Escort 8500ix wouldn't ever stfu, wound up getting a ticket in Vermont 3+ years ago, switched to the R3s/R7 and haven't looked back, they are sooo much better at filtering and their ranges are fantastic. I highly recommend arrows, but my R3s have been excellent and much cheaper than my R7…thinking about ditching the R3 for the R8 now…95% of LEOs in my area are Ka band- 90 minutes north of NYC. I drive about 30k miles annually, a lot of that on I-87 at 80mph

Wow, I had a similar experience. It wasn't until I filed a BBB dispute that customer service responded and the warranty was honored. The unit was a few weeks old when I had the issue. About a week left on warranty when I got my radar back fixed.
Other than that, my r7 is by far the best radar detector I've ever had.
They recently underwent a corporate change and their call center doesn't know anything, not trained. I went through 7-8 reps. All giving conflicting information - 2 different managers. And finally BBB manager that might as well have copy pasted company policy in 5 different exchanges, none that related to my issue.

I don't think Uniden products are bad. But going forward I'll purchase an extended plan to circumvent that shit show of a department.
