Wow! Adding either one of these to my collection would be awesome. I'd definitely prefer the acoustic Bass though as I have a regular electric bass but not acoustic.

Electric bass and decent speaker > cheap acoustic bass.

These do not have the balls/dynamics to keep up with a regular guitar and IMO the pizo pickups sound like poo compared to the real magnetic ones in an electric bass guitar.

That's true but I'm not sure that anyone is planning to record or play live with an acoustic bass.

Personally, I end up playing the acoustic much more these days. It's way easier to pick up and play for a few minutes between work calls and doesn't shake the whole house.

I just picked one up for this reason, to be able to pick up and play without having to connect anything. It is a decent discount off the going rate at other places, so I can justify doubly justify it as being a good deal for something cool.

It scratches the new gear itch, for sure.

Careful… the Violent Femmes might be listening.

Can anyone comment whether Zager Guitars are all they're built up to be, or are they just over-priced?

I bought the Kingman on the last deal here.....Pro Audio? So one acoustic bass is plenty. I have a nice Fender acoustic amp that I can run that and a few of my acoustic guitars through.

I mean you don't have to plug in an electric either

It arrived today, looks great, sounds great. I'm really happy with it for the price.

Weirdly, it was tuned like a 5 string with the lowest string at B (BEAD instead of EADG), but actually played ok and sounded pretty good like that. But tuned properly, it sounds and plays great. Much more satisfying than playing the electric unplugged.

I bought this and immediately took it into the studio with me. On a song I already finished bass on, I decided to try it again with this just by plugging it in. The pickup sounds surprisingly good. The tune sounds great all the way down the board. The recording quality direct with no effects is impressive. Be aware - the direct line comes in HOT. Can you get professional sounding acoustic bass out of a $199 guitar going DI? In this instance, yes.

A note about the setup - it'll take several tunings to get it to hold tune. Don't get frustrated, it'll stick eventually. Aside from this, I made no other setup adjustments. Although I do not have any other acoustic bass guitars, I do have some expensive Martin and Taylor guitars. The original Taylor pickups sound like hot garbage (I have since modified them to sound better). The cheap pickup on this bass sound infinitely better than what I got from Taylor on their acoustic guitars.

You can hear some people playing this DI on YouTube. They are worth watching.

I noticed this too but believe it was to not stress the fret board during shipment.
