I bought 4100 about 6 months ago to replace my old Sonic toothbrush. I liked 4100, it was sleeker, lighter, the handle was smaller.

My long term review:
The USB with stand charging is a little bit of inconvenience (I have no USB port in bathroom) as compared with standard charging that includes outlet stand-charger, but not a big problem. The battery is smaller, last shorter time and provides less power as compared with my old Sonic. Recently, the on/off switch went bust, the plastic covering deteriorated, biodegraded exposing the switch internals. The brush can be switched on only by trying few times to press the right part of the switch with a finger nail. I went back to my old sonic toothbrush that is slightly more bulky but also more powerful and despite being 3-4 yo still works very well.

IMHO, Sonicare 4100 is a bad. low quality product, and should be avoided.

Edited.

Yes, you are right, 4100 includes charging stand but you have to connect to USB port, not everybody has USB port in the bathroom. This not a big deal but just an inconvenience for some users.

After researching the different models of sonicare brushes I found this model (4100) to be the one to get. Has all the features that my dentist recommended. Has 30 sec.per quadrant timer- check. Has two intensity settings - check, warns when you brush too hard. - check. Higher end models add modes. Modes do nothing but change the amount of time. Example: whitening mode adds 30 sec.more time at high intensity for front teeth. Higher end models add bluetooth connectivity and wireless charging. Both of which are not necessary. Ive had mine for a month and have not had to charge it yet. Wondering if you can register the brush to get a free brush head. For the brush head replacement warning to work, replacement brush head must be marked with a special logo.

I have used this brush for years. Does it's job. Not very noisy. But there is published research out there which shows mechanical electric brushes eg Oral B do a better job of cleaning. The Oral B heads are 30-40% cheaper as well. However, sonicare line in general has much better design and are much more quiet.

The sonicare models seem to be getting build cheaper and cheaper.
They used to last me forever but my latest 4100 has a rattling noise inside. Even opened it up and looked for a loose screw (lots of videos on youtube) but mine doesn't have any exposed screws. Guess ill have to toss it before the battery goes south.
Now the newer ones don't even have a charger anymore. usb. And I heard the motors are less powerful.

Thanks,
However, on/off switch on my 4100 stopped working so cheap USB charger is not going to help at this point.
