Fun fact 1: CyberPower states that the End-of-Life for their UPS is 8 years. After that they don't care about the unit at all.

Fun fact 2: CyberPower only supports 2 battery changes in their UPS and does not provide any support after 2 battery changes.

Fun fact 3: If you have a battery under warranty and they replace it, they will ship what they have in their warehouse even if has 15-20% less capacity! (That is, a lower Amp-Hour rating)

Fun fact 4: If you call CyberPower back after receiving a lower capacity battery they don't care and won't do anything about it.
Just some additional tidbits:

A lot of purchasers report problems with the shipping of this unit in the manufacturers box, which gets damaged/destroyed in transit. I just purchased this unit, but had it shipped to my local store instead of my house. This should decrease the chance of damage since it is a good assumption that Costco is NOT going to ship just one naked UPS to a particular store, but have it boxed with other items. Time will tell.

Also, since this is a manufacturer's savings, I am wondering if they are just trying to clear out this particular "older" model. I could not find any discounts on the other "newer" models.

Finally, if you want to see the specs from CyberPower on this unit, they can be found here: https://www.cyberpowersystems.com.../cst1500s/

Update (6/8/23): I picked up the unit today at Costco. My assumption was incorrect and in fact Costco did ship just one naked unit to the store. This was noted via the UPS shipping labels on the manufacturer's box and on the tracking and shipping information. The good news is the box was in pristine condition which I find unbelievable! The employee at the store was not aware of any doubling packaging.

Well ... the unit works perfectly. I just can't believe that the manufacturers box arrive in such pristine condition!
I love this UPS. Had one for 10 years (changed the battery once), and bought a 2nd one recently. This saved me so many times during power outages, and blips.

You can take the shell off pretty easy but I don't recommend you try to remove any of the glue unless you have ok soldering experience in case something gets dislodged.

It's not exactly a safety issue I guess because it's used in many types of electrionics and I don't think anyone will want to open that can of worms. Some units also will never experience an issue while others might just as warranty expires. The glue generally is expected to last about 6 to 7 years depending on conditions.
Oh I've got no soldering experience at all so I won't be removing any of the glue. I just can't take the chance of making a potential bad situation any worse. Hopefully, I'm one of the lucky ones who won't have any issues (fingers crossed).

Costco also has $25 off the simulated sine wave version. Thinks brings it to $124.99, less than its smaller VA cousin.
Most people probably don't need "True Sine wave". For me, I think my UPS only triggers a handful of times a year at most for a pretty short period of time. It is more annoying when it randomly turns off when the battery starts to die.

"The glue generally is expected to last about 6 to 7 years depending on conditions."

This is likely why they only support two battery swaps.

Some of these units are dubbed fire starters.

but, I think some of the newer made units use less glue for strain relief.
any idea if the newer rev 3 versions have this yellow glue? i just ordered a new one off ebay

I got a few simulated sine wave at my local store for around $40 each, and they had the monochrome screens, but all the other boxes had color screens. I assume it's the same deal with these.

Any suggestions on a "better" ups brand?

I've found that between CyberPower and APC, APC is worse, so we're kinda stuck.

Unfortunately, for reasonably priced units, CyberPower has the edge over APC. The old APC units were great and built like a tank. Now the APC units use ALUMINUM wire in their transformers and their electrical components just meet spec without any buffer and they like to go snap, crackle and pop more than the CyberPower ones. OMG

$99 for a 1500va True Sine Wave model? Damn. I find that hard to believe. But stranger things have happened!

It kind of evens out, because my time machine runs on unobtainium and have you seen unobtainium prices lately?!

When the power went out this thing threw up a 30 second rundown counter, and then promptly shut off. Despite having 30-some minutes of runtime in the battery. There must be an option somewhere to turn off stupid mode, but I would think it would have it off by default.

The pre-COVID $99 sale price was for a 1350VA simulated sine wave. The pure sine wave has always been more expensive. Plus this has a slightly larger battery.
