Not sure what your question is exactly. The USB-C to MagSafe cable and power adapter are always included and do not have to be bought separately.

I would definitely recommend to buy 16GB RAM, since 8GB RAM is not future proof.
It's throw-away tech, why would you future proof it? Just trade up as new gear comes out every year.

I'd argue that it's not today-proof. Same with 256GB of storage.

To get a well-equipped model with 1TB, the price is $1609 WITH the ed. discount and gift card (that you can buy only other overpriced Mac stuff with). This is typical Tim Apple hype: horribly underpowered computer price points and kill people with the cost of upgrades: 3-4 times the price of equipping a Windows machine with extra storage and RAM.

So, I'll be holding on to my mid-2015 MBPro happily running Mojave for quite a while yet.
Horribly underpowered? Have you read any of the spec tests?

Yes, parents can order for any student -- they don't check so anyone can order

I feel like I'm seeing something different than others? No $150 GC in the bag, but an automatic "special offer" of $150 off. This leaves my totals as:

13" M2 16GB/256GB=$1,029
15" M2 16GB/256GB=$1,229

EDIT: My bad, I also see the $150 GC now. And, as others have said, they charge you for the "special offer" of the $150 gift card, bringing the totals from above to $1,179 and $1,379. WTF?

$1609 is not bad at all for the upgrade to a more average spec'd device

Briefly considered about buying a 15 inch air, but after playing with the configuration for a bit, I am happy with my 14.2 inch macbook pro with 32gb ram.

I've never found 256GB storage to be an issue, there's no games I want to play on my Mac and I store everything else in the cloud. My M1 MBA is the only laptop I've been able to run hard for more than two years with no issues.

Yeah.. so this isn't really 150 off PLUS a 150 gift card. It's just making 150 of the total price into flex use but still with apple.

Besides the weight the MacBook Pro is better in every aspect. I went with air because I'm a light users and I don't have as much needs. But the screen quality, speaker and all the air is subpar in all aspect.

But if I get to choose again I will probably bite the bullet and get the pro.

Genius marketing, since it locks you into Apple, and most people will inevitably spend on top of the gc for whatever purchase. But lame. Very lame.

I'm torn because I actually need a new computer now…though I could wait until July 4, if I know there would be sales. Anyone know if that tends to be a thing?
