Micro Center has a single stick of that RAM for $70 but a 32GB kit is $100. Most places don't seem to sell single 16GB they're all in two packs. Puts you in an awkward spot to get to 32GB.

Is it true that its bad to have 4 sticks of 8 GB? (Instead of 2 of 16 GB)

If I was doing this, I'd scoop the second stick ($70) and a CPU cooler, then use a $25 new customer coupon. It would get you the 12700K, Z690-P, 32GB DDR5, and cooler for about $425.

I just pulled the trigger on a similar Newegg kit, otherwise I'd probably go this route.

You make a good point about the ram and honestly I would probably go that way, but a lot of YouTube videos are out there on DDR5 vs DDR4 and dual vs single and in gaming its not as pronounced as you think. Maybe 1-3 percent in gaming. Other things like rendering/coding maybe more but if you are just using this for office and gaming you would be better off spending that 108 on a better video card now. 16 GB fine for gaming now. VRAM in the GPU (6gb vs 12gb etc) would be better.

No but you run into more compatibility issues trying to run them at the same speeds. Meaning some boards at least in the past would run 4 sticks at slower speed or JEDEC standard. So if memory overclocking is important its better with 2 sticks.

tbh, it makes a bit of sense when dealing with ram that is above higher than standard spec for ddr 5 (in this case i think its 4800 for base) anything higher than that is technically overclocked

so they test pairs of sticks to get the advertised speeds, but yea i can see how that is annoying especially if you have one stick fail and you just need a single for replacement.

No, it's only (relatively) bad to have one stick (or three, for that matter).

https://www.microcenter.com/site/...00rdt.aspx

Note, the manager at my local store said he would not honor the coupon on any bundle with a cpu, which is why I suggested the ram + cooler to hit the $100 threshold.

Something like this could work on a budget. If you're looking to OC prices go up from there.
