Project Genesis has 512GB Motorola edge+ 2023 Smartphone on sale for $399.99. + $25 1-Month Unlimited Talk/Text/Data Service = $424.99. Shipping is free, but there are taxes. (My all-in price came to $452.50.)

The Moto Edge+ 2023 was just released for $799.99.

You need to sign up for the monthly plan at $25/month. This plan is on Dish Network's brand new 5G network, plus acts as an MVNO on AT&T and T-Mobile's networks. This is a TRUE unlimited data, with NO throttling.

Here is a link to the FAQ [genesis5g.com].

Note, you need to enter your Zip Code and Email to check service availability in your area before adding phone to cart

Specs:
Processor: Qualcomm SM8550-AB Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (4 nm)
Display: 6.6" 1080x2400 165Hz OLED
RAM: 8GB
Storage: 512GB
Operating system: Android 13
Battery: 5100mah

PC Magazine: "The Moto Edge+ packs snappy performance, above-average cameras, and excellent battery life into an appealing $800 package. The Edge trounces the Pixel 7 Pro in raw power, produces clearer shots than the OnePlus 11 5G, and far outlasts the Galaxy S23 when it comes to battery life and charging speeds."

From the terms:
"You acknowledge and agree that your Device will be locked to the Project Genesis wireless Service for a period of twelve months from the date of activation."

Hard pass
Why would you want to leave the service? It gives unlimited wireless, unthrottled, for $25 a month - including used as a hotspot.

All sounds good on paper, but like we've seen with Visible the actual service can be very YMMV.

Because we know literally nothing about the real world performance at this point?

Yes, we do: Project Genesis 5G Buildin g Out Nicely! - YouTube [youtube.com]

In most cases, you will be the ONLY one the tower if you are using the Dish network, so little chance for having your speed slowed down until they get a lot of new customers

The unlimited hotspot is more intriguing than the phone. The phone we can get at regular Boost for the same price. Is it possible to use it as a home internet connection? I'd like to replace Xfinity Smilie

Been reading about this phone and it sounds like a really solid deal for $400. Thinking about pulling the trigger. My Mint plan is up on the 10th and I need to keep my number so if I were to spring for this, I would need to also re-up on Mints cheapest plan (3months/$75) so I could port my number. That's what is holding me back. Ive got a bit of credit with OnePlus that Id like to use but just not enthused with any of their offerings right now.

They currently only offer one phone - the Moto Edge. They just switched from a Samsung device. The new network uses VoNR, which no other network uses yet so the phone they offer is specially customized for their network.

Has anyone actually used their service yet? What kind of speeds are you getting?

Very interested in this. However, my wife and I are currently on TMobile Magenta Plus 55. She is a dyed in the wool iPhone person and I am Android. I would make the change, but unfortunately no iPhone available on this deal. Yet. If they can add an iPhone to the Motorola, I'm in.

Same, I just want to use this as a home internet plan for family members.

Edit: looks like they had a Hotspot plan for $20 a month, but that disappeared in the past week or so. I get a feeling that $25 unlimited is not going to stay around long. They'll likely either change to a higher price or a 100gb data cap that's been discussed, or more likely the whole thing will just go away one day.

In any case, way too risky to get a locked $400 phone for me. If you're a gambler who really wants wireless data (or whose ISP options are terrible) it might be worth the chance that you get somehow grandfathered, and the service doesn't collapse.

Research before buying. Project Genesis is a giant mess and does not work properly. It's very far from being reliable.

Seems like a decent deal since you get to roam on ATT and TMobile towers. Worst case scenario you get to roam on ATT/Tmobile at deprioritized speeds.

It's kind of a bad idea generally to buy a cell phone planning to use it as a full home internet connection. Tmobile and Verizon both offer actual 5g home internet connections now, and if that's what you're looking for, then I don't know why you'd eschew those options in favor of something likely to be much less reliable.
