Or you could buy something else like a discounted Puma Deviate Nitro 2s. I've seen the price on them drop at some retailers.
This trend of stretching out running shoe product windows appears to be gaining acceptance within the industry. HOKA and Brooks already do it. My guess is that companies are pursuing this strategy to reduce the he amount and frequency of low margin clearance related sales.
The counter strategy from consumers may consist of building up a larger running shoe rotation from a diverse group of brands. That way the consumer is not trapped into any one brand's product cycle. The old strategy of buying backup pairs of favorite shoes will also become a necessary rather than optional.
There's a Reddit post in the r/runningshoegeeks sub that broke the news back in mid-May. Saucony reps are privately informing people at demo events of a new change in strategy. Going forward Saucony will only update/refresh shoes in their Performance line, which mainly includes the Endorphin series, once every two years instead of annually.
Over at LetsRun I made a post about this new change and a shake up of corporate leadership at Saucony's parent company Wolverine Worldwide (ticker: WWW). Last month the company named a new president and the head of the Active Group, a division of the company that includes brands such as Merrell and Saucony, announced her resignation. WWW has been struggling in recent years with meager profits and rising debts. The change in shoe update policy could be seen as an attempt to reduce costs and increase gross margins.
Running Warehouse has independently confirmed that Saucony is skipping Endorphin updates for 2023.
Thanks for the information. That is rather disappointing. Most runners look forward to a new shoe refresh, especially on performance shoes annually. I know I was really looking forward to the Speed4 and Pro4. Glad I have two pair of unboxed Speed2s that I can rely on for now.
I actually love my Speed 3s. PR'd my marathon in them. Of course the month before that I PR'd my 1/2 marathon in my Speed 2s. I actually have 2 brand new pairs of Speed 2s waiting to be worn. They are definitely one of my favorite running shoes of all-time.
That being said, I do plan to buy a couple of pair of Speed 3s once they go on a nice sale.
I'm waiting to jump on speed 3 if they ever go on sale

I have a pair of Speed 3s and I love them. I was just saying that I have 2 brand new pair of Speed 2s that I bought last year when they were on sale. I will probably just run in the Speed 2s until the Speed 3s go onsale again. No need for me to pay full price for the 3s when I have 2 pair of 2s I can use. The Speed 2s are a great shoe by the way, but you probably already knew that.
I got my first pair of Saucony Speed 2s and they are the best running shoe I've ever worn. I'll never go back to Nike.
Don't say never, Nike's vaporfly's are incredible race day shoes coming from someone who owns 15 pairs of saucony speed 2's.
For daily training the speed 2 is awesome though I'm currently dealing with a broken foot / stress fracture in my 3rd metatarsal from overuse. Wonder if running solely in plated shoes accelerated that.

There are other runners who like some consistency, and don't like the risk of a shoe they like getting updated for the worse

While this is true and sometimes the new model is worse than the one that preceded it (Hoka has had an issue with this over the past several years with their Clifton models). I will say that Saucony has consistently been right on point with their Endorphin line of the Speed and Pro. From the original to the Speed/Pro 2 and the current Speed/Pro 3, the shoes has improved with each iteration.
