Small but still designed to look like a gas car with too much high blocky hood length and almost no frunk utilization.
Polestar and Volvo could step away from traditional gas car design language. For this car you have a pointless for function long hood. You suffer inside because of that misplaced priority with the unnecessary limitation of back seat legroom and less wheelbase. An MG4 is the car to compare for current design of an ev. Good rear legroom. It's got a 2705mm wheelbase vs. 2650mm for this Volvo. 2 inches right there. 4287mm length vs. 4233mm for the EX30. The difference shows in the back door dimension.

Still not too late to cancel your Model 3 order if you FOMO'd into that. This Volvo is worth the wait and wipes the floor of Tesla for less money with much better quality.

Volvo models are no longer made in Sweden. Volvo is currently owned by the Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, a Chinese company which owns over 15 other vehicle makers.

Based in Hangzhou, which is located in southeast China's Zhejiang Province, the Zhejiang Geely Holding Group launched their automotive business in 1997. They took control of the Swedish-made Volvo brand in 2010. So, the Zhejiang Geely Holding Group owns the brand, but who makes Volvo cars? Some drivers in the Laurel or Shepherd area may remember that for a brief period, Volvo was part of the Ford Motor Company, but currently, all Volvo vehicles are manufactured by the Geely Holding Group.

No thanks. Sorry but if I wanted a car from china, there are cheaper options. I don't!
Awesome info. It's tough for Volvo since, as a brand, it would suffer if it made any slips in safety. they're already super low-volume. If the current owners, whoever and wherever they're from, were to make an unsafe car, there would be zero demand for Volvos. Huge risk, I hope they don't compromise, but I agree that their ownership could definitely be willing to cut costs with the market the way it is.

Hahahaha, you think this base, starting at $35K model, is going to run zero to sixty in 3.2 seconds?!?!? It says, as fast as, for a reason. Expect at least $50K for any version that hits those times.

Whatcha smoking over there?
Exactly. I feel like Volvo is getting a lot of free marketing from the low starting MSRP. But when the actual sales start we might see that the base version is significantly cut down with barely any advertised features. Its like giving Volvo $500 for a year in the hopes of scoring a killer value EV.

Unfortunately, most people have this same mentality. I just moved from a Model S to a real luxury EV and it is night and day in fit, finish, quality, comfort, and range when it comes to advertised vs real (Tesla falsely exaggerates their range while my new EV underestimates their range.) I liked my Tesla for what it was for the most part but I am never looking back or going back.

Edit: 4 years owning a model s and the number of times I used a supercharger is a big fat 1 and that's only because I happen to be at a Rudy's barbecue that had a supercharger and I had the free supercharger for a year.
My lifetime efficiency over 55k kilometers on my Model 3 is about 20% better than the EPA estimates. I can't belive you only supercharged once in a year of free supercharging! Tesla isn't really a luxury brand though some people for some reason try to make it out to be. It's more a 'tech' brand though fit/finish/quality/comfort has improved substantially since 2017 or whenever you bought your Model S. What did you end up buying to replace it? My guess is a Mercedes EQS worship

Wish it had an option for 3rd row!
3rd row? This little roller skate barely fits 2 rows!

it's comparable to a Chevy Trax/Buick Encore.

Ownership of the factory's namesake rarely is reflection of the auto brand though.

Heck, for a while Chrysler used to own Lamborghini.

Tata of India owns Jaguar and Land Rover and my understanding is their reliability has gotten much better after the ownership change. Smilie

Volvo is made in many different countries throughout the world and I believe they are opening factory in US so maybe this one will be made in US.

Chinese manufacturing tech is VERY advanced. Only issue is that people are not willing to pay for quality out of Chinese factories most of the time. (Tesla/Apple/etc.) Pretty much only reason Chinese are not selling their cars in US is probably due to dealership and service network issues, (more of logistical issues) maybe utilizing existing dealerships by buying up the existing company may be a way to do it? (Like Volvo) I don't know.

Rent polestars all the time and I don't like the interface even though the car is built very well. An ev is all about the tech and this isn't all that great. Wish they did a better implementation of the Google os on the screen.

Dear America, stop calling hatchbacks SUVs. Thank you

Looks like nice car, wouldn't buy gen 1 car with zero reviews.
Then stop calling Sedans "Saloon cars"

Even for the rwd model, $35k is very competitive. At this price point, there is no competitor to match the range and charging speed not even talking about build quality, brand name, tech and etc. And based on ioniq 5, dual motor may be only 4k more.

At least Volvo has local dealers in our state unlike Tesla. No need to tow it 200 miles to get a loaner

This is a not a SUV by American standards. It's a raised hatchback. No one calls the Subaru Crosstrek an SUV. Also, that reviewer wastes a lot of time. The car may have no gas but he's making up for it. Doug Demuro please.
lol well said! Heck, I don't even consider the multitude of crossovers to be SUVs! For me, SUV = Body On Frame !

The long hood is for crush space. Definitely not wasted.

Volvo knows a few things about building safe vehicles.
