Just saw a Yamaha Arius YDP-142 for $400 on fb marketplace. Almost 10 years old and in good condition. Cant decide if I should buy it, or buy this one for $750

Definitely get this LP380.

Pianos get pretty beat up, used is a dangerous proposition unless you are an experienced player and know what defects to look for. nod

I'm not a connoisseur by any means, but a piano salesman did make a good point once that an older used piano they had just brought in had a much easier menu to navigate than the more modern version because they had reduced the number of buttons to navigate the options in the more modern version.

Something worth considering if you can get a good idea about the condition of the used one.

i would pick the used YDP 142, which has a much better key action, better sound sampling, better speaker than this. Also, the resale value for Yamaha is very high. He can sell it at the same price after 3-4 years of playing

I wouldn't want to buy used without a warranty, unless it's a very low price, but I guess it depends on how low this price is for you and how good the condition is. There are way too many unseen problems that could be lurking in the electronics that the owner might not even know about.

The ydp 142 around me are selling at 700-900, they they gone quickly. People obsessed with Yamaha

Absolutely, used digital pianos are really dangerous. nod

The action and button contacts wear out, it's a hassle to change out.

This thing is like 9 years old, for $800 you can something much more modern.

Neither, just grab a Yamaha DGX-670 for a little bit more, the tech in both of those other models is way too old and the sampling in the new Yamahas are much better than this thing is.

I've been a shopper for digital pianos. These thing's rapidly lose value. The reason is bc of the improvements. I would go with the newer stuff on a sale rather than used (esp one that is 10 years old). While sound is sound it's been getting better. We may be reaching the stage where it's less improvements than before but it's still evolving as they experiment with customer feedback.

If I only understood the difference between pianos like this and Kawai CA-49/59 or Roland…

I'm trying to buy something that will keep for years. Our son is into playing, and piano teacher says he needs 88-keys piano and not a portable keyboard anymore.

I bought this same piano from adorama almost exactly a year ago. The delivery was great no damage at all. It's been used every day since I got it. Typically 1-3 hours per day. The only downside I've found is there isn't much room to hold your music.
