For a start, I'd get an Aquaclear hang-on back filter, the bigger the better. For lighting, an aquarium LED strip or 2, nothing too fancy, from eBay or Amazon. Then a 200 watt heater (5 watts per gallon) if you want tropical fish. Petco has a great metal stand called "Brooklyn." It's very sturdy, I have my 40b on one now (wow, I bought mine for $60 3 yrs ago, they're twice as much now!) https://www.petco.com/shop/en/pet...40-gallons
Those would be the basics to get started. Plus gravel (50lbs or so) and decor - I favor natural or black small gravel and sandblasted manzanita branches or aquarium- safe rocks - eBay is a great source for both.
You can get cheap and easy low light plants like anacharis and wisteria from eBay. That's where I buy my plants and even fish and cherry shrimp with great results!
Been an aquarist for 40 years. 20 gallon long tanks also have a nice footprint, long and low (30" x 12" x 12" I think.) The more surface area for oxygen exchange, the better, which is why I favor shallower tanks.
The 20 gallon is $94.99
The 37 gallon is $83.37 in case anyone is wondering.

During the pandemic we bought the expensive biOrb 16 Gal globe shaped aquarium. We only have 2 gold fish in it. And we bought and replace filters. The problem is that the tank turns green in a week. Considering the process of cleaning all the stuff and refilling is basically an entire Sunday , we kid of gave up and while it looks amazing when cleaned, we no longer clean it because of the huge hassel and looks like a green bulb in our living room.
Question:
Is there any electric pump+filter I can set inside that just circulates the water by a mechanical pump and keeps the water clear? Something electric and one that is not designed for mounting on the side of a rectangular acquarium because this is globe shaped.

For filtering, you can look into a canister filter to see if it'll fit with your tank design. They can have different styles for both the intake and output pipe or tube.

Cherry shrimp would be really cute in that tank. I have one with eggs right now, they're a lot of fun to watch and they'll breed when they're happy. Add some live plants for the babies to hide in, too.
Regarding goldfish, like the other slickdealer said, they're messy and they'll get pretty big.
Is your tank by a window? Sounds like an algae bloom. I'd move the tank and cut the light duration way down, maybe even no lights for a little while.
Honestly, I never break my tanks down for a complete clean, you'll kill all the beneficial bacteria that lives in the gravel. Also, only rinse the filters in warm tap water and reuse, there's beneficial bacteria on those, too. Just small water changes or even use a gravel vac once a week.
Gradual changes are best, maybe 10% or so. Algae bloom might require a few larger changes. You never have to break a tank completely down to clean it. It's actually not recommended!
Having a tank isn't as high maintenance as one thinks, but the smaller tanks are less forgiveable than larger ones. More frequent weekly small water changes are needed. My 40b just needs a 10% change once a month if I remember to do it. Otherwise, I just top it off to replace what's lost in evaporation.
Orb tanks are more for decoration than the fish's health. Surface area is small but cherry shrimp are very hardy in small volumes. Even a betta would be decently happy in there but probably not with cherry shrimp - they'll eat them. There are tiny fish that school, search for "nano fish." My 40b has schools of nano fish right now (galaxy danios and emerald danios). Maybe a small (3-4) school of nano fish and cherry shrimp or a betta and a small school would work. Even better, ditch the orb and get a 20 gallon long. Much more fun to keep with more possibilities for livestock and plants.
