I wish I had waited 5 months for the Mac Studio w/ M2 Max instead of the 16/256 Mac Mini. That 32GB of RAM + extra ports really would've done me good. I love my Mac Mini M2 Pro don't get me wrong, but boy am I pushing this thing to its limits. Lol
For $650 I could have gotten:
+2 more USB-C ports
better processor
much better gpu
+16GB RAM
+10gigabit ethernet
SD card reader

Anyway, this isn't the worst deal if you're not going for an edu discount. 64 GB would be nice for me... 1 TB is a bit small, but you can get a lot more external storage for a lot less than what Apple charges for upgrades.
It is so aggravating, though, that we can no longer upgrade RAM or SSDs in these things anymore. I'm not a bigtime Apple fanboy but they work so well for what I do every day. I've used Macs for actually 40 years now (dating back to an Apple II in the early '80s), and they kill me with their ridiculous prices for RAM and HD space.

The expandability of their products is head scratching to me. With how small NVMe are now, apple could easily integrate an opening likely did for the PS5 and allow some user customization without compromising their appearance.
But it's apple, you get what you get. You buy what they sell.
Thanks for supporting an American company at least everyone!

I highly doubt you're doing anything to push that top of the line MAC Mini.
I completely agree that their memory is expensive. I also entirely understand why people may not want to buy Apple or spend the money on more memory because the upgrade is expensive.
That said, unified memory is not RAM. The same memory is used for CPU as for GPU and that's fundamentally different from a RAM/VRAM architecture. The RAM you get for cheap is not going to cut it even if it were feasible to use it.
I have a 256 GB HDD in my daily driver. I use it extensively. I use Dropbox where the system only syncs some folders. I have a 80+ GB free. I am ok with the current setup. Personally the $100/year is worth it to me because my system is always on wifi and I usually use the same folders. TBH small hard drive and large backup/sync is sufficient for many people provided you don't mind Dropbox and it's safety/privacy policies etc.
