Streaming has ruined movies. These platforms underpriced their product for years to shift everyone to streaming from physical. Now the price hikes are out of control for content that is the old "Direct-to-Video/VHS/DVD" model. Everyone knew those movies were subpar, and now it's becoming the norm content.
Not to mention as physical disappears, "your" library is at the mercy of the platform. People complain Star Wars has been post-edited many times over altering the originals. Han vs. Greedo. It's very troubling what an all-streaming world means—censorship of movies. There's no copy to say otherwise. And then Disney and HBO and Netflix are purging their libraries to save money not paying royalties/license fees. So there are simply movies no one will ever be able to see again.
I'll keep renting from Redbox and purchase physical movies for my collection, and enjoying the superior picture and sound quality. Enjoy the $50 Netflix sub.
I'm convinced all these digital movies people are buying to "own" will have their libraries purged. Those servers cost money to maintain, and will go the way of physical ownership. These companies aren't going to host indefinitely for free your movies you bought years ago. They'll shift you over to their streaming platforms. You'll be renting all of your entertainment each month. Paywalled like crazy. You'll need 5 subscriptions to watch the movies you used to just own, or rent for $1 from Redbox/Blockbuster.
Streaming: the biggest con in entertainment that people blindly embraced.
I just found a stack of VHS tapes. Good thing I still have a VCR hooked up to my home theater receiver. Been watching to see what's on those old tapes. I also have a cassette deck, turntable and wait for it... an 8-track player that works!
I used to tape shows n stuff during the day when I'd be at school, and I've kept those tapes all this time. Watching those commercials between the episodes from the 90s is gold 😅
Used this the other night on super Mario bros movie on Blu-ray. Was a good movie; lots of nostalgic stuff and little in the form of politics or special interest groups. Lots of watchable extras. Including late, very late extra credit scene.
For some reason I couldn't get it to play in my PS4, had to use my PS3 that was all dusty and didn't have controllers charged. Don't know how common it is to have clear discs. PS4 read other discs; sits vertical in position.

I was dragging yard sale stuff out of my parent's basement and found 2, 8m cameras and a projector 📽️ set. Gonna try to get that set up. Pretty sure the one of the two projectors works. Recorders were in good condition but didn't work. Not sure why; battery compartments were good but the settings selectors were difficult to adjust.
Got a bunch of old Christmas and home video recording to try out and see what my older siblings were up to back in the 70s.
Dad worked at RCA; so he had a VHS recorder that he'd lug around to games he wasn't coaching. Was the unofficial assistant coach for all our teams; same as recording man for our 80s high school basketball teams. He didn't move into DVD recorders though; I think he unofficially retired from doing that and just watched the games and unofficially coached practices.
Gosh, reminds me of the time my brother and I used the VHS recorder to record our slam dunk contests. Slow mo mode was awesome!
Should try it sometime. I noticed 24 hour streaming rentals are standard $5.99. Streaming is turning into being the least consumer-friendly debacle consumers naively flocked to. Not to mention streaming subscriptions are a wasteland of direct-to-TV content quality.
When people talk about the inconvenience of physical media, they of course neglect to mention the half hour they spend scrolling through Netflix bored out of their minds from the quality of options, or lack thereof, and having to settle on their best choice available, which wasn't even something they wanted to begin with.
If they just had better selection or something. Just nothing good. Usually only a few good movies come out every year. Worse and worse it seems every year. I find myself watching more series shows than movies.
I would totally use them more if there was new stuff that was any good and not already exclusive to other services. $0 - $2 for a blu-ray video isn't bad and you already usually got an idea what you want to see from commercials. Probably 5 minutes tops to put pants on and go pick it up.
I spend so much time adding junk I probably won't watch to my watch list; I probably spend on avg 15-20 minutes before ever watching a movie, different if I'm in the middle of a series.

Now they're available on home video already? These studios are shooting themselves in the foot.
Edit- Nevermind. I just tried to watch D&D. I understand why it's on Redbox already.

Redbox should include adult movies in their offerings for people who don't want online footprint of their pron profile.
