The last time they appeared at this price they came in and out of stock quickly. In part, the assumption on my part was that this was some kind of mistake with the much lower spec DS423. However, the deal is real... just also watched closely by fans aware of the value. If you're in the market and the price pops up run don't walk to this solid bargain from Synology.

There are multiple factors (risk tolerance, DIY skill) as well as your use case (bulletproof backup, general media server, fast network storage, etc.) all to take into consideration when defining the best options for your NAS drives.

If you're trying to identify the drives prior to removal I'd recommend online resources that document them [nascompares.com], otherwise I'm not clear what you're attempting to test(?).
