So I've got this, the only thing I can complain about is that one of the XLR inputs broke because it's just cheap plastic and the locking mechanism that keeps the XLR cable in does not function on one of them. Not a big deal cuz you can just pull the cable out but paying for something like this and having a simple function that it was designed to do repeatedly break the first time you use it is kind of disheartening so you're not going in for quality here. It's heavy shiny plastic and the buttons are rubber.

Well, not a false observation.

Own this. It replaced a very old Behringer UM2. The feature I appreciate on the Tascam is the 'ON AIR' button. It cuts signal from the XLR so it's my physical mute button in case I can't PTT or PTM. (It also has an on/off)
As another said, it's all plastic but I find it quit rigid and solidly built. I'm not one to repeatably plug and unplug my mics, I set up the interface and it sits, job done.

That being said, I wouldn't pay more than $60 for it so this is priced appropriately.

Are you stuck using the provided software or are there alternatives?

I thought it was a beat machine. I always wanted one so I can record some sounds and loop them in and out. Does anyone know a good starter one for that job that doesn't need a computer?

Thanks, it needs a PC to work right? I mean does it have to be hooked up to get the beats, or can I just customize the buttons, then plug a USB so it knows which button is which rythm/beat and then I assume it follows the tempo/beat to start the next sequence? I guess I'll look for some youtube reviews and learn more about this, but thanks for the suggestion.
