Yes, it has 1GB DRAM. Older spec sheet showed it as having 8GB DRAM but I guess it changed.

I don't know that I'd call it superfast storage, at least when it comes to writes. After the ~6-84GB pSLC cache is exhausted, sequential writes drop to ~170 MB/s. At that rate it would take about 13 hours to fill, assuming sequential writes. That's about on par with a hard drive. For an application where it's mostly just used for reads it would probably be fine.

paid $300 for the 4tb version a year and a half ago. has been working well. But def slows down with large transfers. took a long time to copy my existing 2tb drive to it when i first got it.

No It has 8GB DRAM, not sure where your looking but current specs sheets from Samsung still show 8GB.

The biggest difference is the TBW, the 4TB QVO is rated for 1440TBW and the 4TB EVO is rated for 2400TBW. Unless you write a ton of files either drive will outlive whatever system you put it in.

I'd like to get a laptop and have 8TB of SSD storage. Can most current laptops handle swapping in this 8TB drive? I haven't shopped for a laptop for years.

I don't know about "most" laptops, but you'll want to check the individual model. I have a Dell where the only easily accessible drive interface is a 2280 NVME.

It can technically fit a second SATA drive, but due to having the larger battery the interface is not accessible. If I wanted to use this, I'd have to buy the smaller battery and replace it before I could use the SATA connection.

Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron Stop just stop trying to rip people off. 2TB is down to $62. 62 x 4 = $248. Why on earth would you pay these sky high prices of almost 2X? This is not even a performance SSD just a shitty QLC drive.

BTW this a game drive was down to $330 previously so yes this is definitely a ripoff.

No. The QVO uses QLC NAND and some sizes may have less DRAM. QLC is slower and has less endurance. The most noticeable thing will be that writes slow down much more than on the EVO, once the (~6-84GB) pSLC cache is exhausted.

The biggest difference people are going to notice is how much writes slow down once the pSLC cache is exhausted. The QVO drops much further than the EVO and many other drives.

This isn't a 2TB drive. High capacity SSDs come with a price premium. Also, this drive has DRAM and is from a reputable company.

Of course, being the same size. No difference in a 8TB or 800 TB future SSD, assuming the OS is capable and size fits. M.2 is a little different in that some were made thicker with dual sides.
