You should be looking at the 6700xt 12GB card for an upgrade.

Recently bought this same card from MIcrocenter for the same price without a rebate. Paired with an i3-13100F and Gigabyte B760M motherboard for a budget 1080p build. Under load, those 3 fans can get a bit loud. Other than that, performance is great for this price.

I purchased this for my youngest child's pc to replace a 4gig 6500xt. It's a mountain of difference in performance. The exact price that I bought the 6500xt for from Microcenter last year.

I bought the MSI version of the 6600 in early August '22 right as prices went down, was around
220? 270?

It's great on my very outdated Ryzen 1600 w DDR 4 (48gb) and Evo 850 SSD

Legit question, cause I'm not too savvy about these things. Would it be a noticeable improvement from a Vega 56?

Not worth it. Owned a sapphire Vega 64 and have a 6600(non xt) sapphire in a side build and it's pretty similar perf. This is considerable less energy and heat, but a waste of money and time to go from a Vega to this.

Most versions of the RX 6600 are only 2 fan but some people prefer 3 fan versions because of better cooling.

Neither card should be considered good for future proofing

I would choose 6600 as it's best bang for buck if it meets your needs, and last time I checked it was the best value card on the market in terms of price to performance.

I would take 3060 only if you have a use case (e.g. their machine learning API), but to be honest if you really need to use any proprietary Nvidia features, whether ray tracing or artificial intelligence, you're better off with a higher end card anyway.

What would people rather get. RX 6600 or RTX 3050. Consider a weak power supply.

definitely RX6600. Bought this a couple of years ago for $180 from an ex miner and couldn't be happier. Easily runs 1080p on high & ultra settings on most AAA games.

As far as future-proofing goes, the Xbox Series X has 10GB of VRAM, and the Playstation 5 has 16GB, albeit not divided between CPU and GPU. 8GB is gonna be more and more constrained as games target those platforms.
