Eggs just experienced the largest monthly price decline since 1951, in part because the bird flu risk was overblown or managed properly, and demand is down after Easter and from people balking at the earlier prices. Other foods will be slower to come down.

I will eat the heck out of 54+ eggs. Egg sandwich, fried rice with scrambled eggs, hard-boiled in egg salad, deviled eggs, whatever.

Thanks OP!
Those who don't have a Kroger family store nearby, check out Aldi's because they're around a dollar a dozen now too

Companies order boxes to ship items to consumers, if companies are ordering less boxes that means they either know or are calculating that they will be shipping out/selling less items thus first indicator of slow down or recession.
I get the theory but that doesn't mean it is true.

good summary, but could there be more to it?

>>>1) cull birds affected by the flu, that reduces egg output and therefore prices rise

have you thought about how and why the birds were culled?

if you wanna dig a little deeper, which the media tends not to do, check out how the PCR tests work in testing for bird flu, covid et al. these tests should not be used for diagnostic purposes, but of course are.

for extra credit, check out what happens when the test is amplified beyond the 35 amplification cycles. hmmm, kinda enlightening huh? can you see where this is all drifting? (hint, hint)

what do you think happens when the PCR test goes above 35 amplification cycles and we may just 'happen to test' a chicken farm containing 5 million birds?

My basic point was that egg price spike was only going to be temporary - until the flock could be replenished and that was going to take at minimum 7-8 months, which is where we find ourselves now.

1) Your 2019 article about RV's was predicting a recession that never occurred and even did a hard 180. (not talking about COVID, so please don't pretend RV's and COVID are somehow related)
2a) Your "cardboard index" is according to (again your source) "some investors." "Some people" use the sun's relative position in the constellations to make major life choices. Does that prove astrology valid? LOL...
2b) Second paragraph of your "cardboard index" article clearly states "the cardboard box index is too volatile to be used to predict economic trends"

That failed hard Wink

well sure most can understand that we can hatch more chickens and replace the culled hens. many of us have done that for years, simple process.

maybe i have been toooo vague how all these chickens got culled in the first place.

As a former dairy manager at a Kroger store, I HATED these sales lol. 2 shipments of eggs per week no matter how busy or slow the store was (I worked at a lot of different stores). Only 30 cases fit per pallet, and there's lots of reshuffling of egg cases in the back. If you don't want a bunch of cracked eggs your best bet is to figure out what day the eggs come in and either get to the store the first day of the ad or get there the day the eggs show up... I was constantly having to take eggs off of pallets and throw them onto the egg wall in the back and then down stack them so others could bring them out to fill the shelf up.

In the pNW it is 1.99 (dozen Eggland best) not .99 at Kroger /Fred Myers
Egglands best is always more expensive than Freddie's/Kroger brand.

Do eggs last in the fridge past their expiration date? Wondering whether I can stock up. Have bad memories of paying over $5 for these since inflation hit
Yes, but how long depends on temp, how well they were kept at the store, and how frequently you go in and out of your fridge. Then you can check if they are good or bad depending on if they float when submerged

I'm surprised they aren't willing to part with such a small amount simply to avoid the stigma.

We have no krogers in our area. They tried busting up the union and failed so they closed their dumpy stores and never looked back. All the other grocers say thank you kroger

Of course. And it says, 'Best By'. A few weeks after that, you can hard boil them, or just use them like regular. I do. Anyway, egg prices are trending down so no need to hoard them. Hoard something else on sale that's less perishable and use the savings to buy fresh egg.
