Eggs just experienced the largest monthly price decline since 1951, in part because the bird flu risk was overblown or managed properly, and demand is down after Easter and from people balking at the earlier prices. Other foods will be slower to come down.

I will eat the heck out of 54+ eggs. Egg sandwich, fried rice with scrambled eggs, hard-boiled in egg salad, deviled eggs, whatever.
Thanks OP!
Those who don't have a Kroger family store nearby, check out Aldi's because they're around a dollar a dozen now too

looks like they over ordered thinking the market would keep paying $$$$. Now they got lots of eggs to dump.

nope, we are just back to a more normal egg market. actually the farmers had to convert over to a more cage-less free range type of chicken in certain states, so that will mean a lower supply in some areas where this is required.

As a former dairy manager at a Kroger store, I HATED these sales lol. 2 shipments of eggs per week no matter how busy or slow the store was (I worked at a lot of different stores). Only 30 cases fit per pallet, and there's lots of reshuffling of egg cases in the back. If you don't want a bunch of cracked eggs your best bet is to figure out what day the eggs come in and either get to the store the first day of the ad or get there the day the eggs show up... I was constantly having to take eggs off of pallets and throw them onto the egg wall in the back and then down stack them so others could bring them out to fill the shelf up.
You hate your employer Kroger, now you are out of job ....well done 👍

Dang! I don't like your logical explanation!! The price of eggs plumetting like this almost gave me a glimmer of hope that other grocery prices may start to come down soon, too.

Quote from AnciusD :

Likely the main reason egg prices are coming back down is that the poultry industry is recovering from the bird flu outbreak.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 58 million birds have been affected by highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in the most recent outbreak, including commercial poultry as well as backyard chickens.

Lempert said it takes months for newly born hens, unaffected by the highly contagious and lethal bird flu, to be able to lay eggs that can then be sold to consumers.

Grocery prices can also be tied to inflation, which remained high in April but decreased slightly. Consumer prices increased 4.9% over the same period a year ago, but they dipped compared to prior months.

Egg prices may not fully return to previous levels anytime soon though, Lempert said, since egg producers will want to make up for lost earnings and other supply chain issues, such as labor shortages and trucking industry woes.

Do eggs last in the fridge past their expiration date? Wondering whether I can stock up. Have bad memories of paying over $5 for these since inflation hit
Unless you have a very specific plan to make fried eggs, you can freeze them. They keep for around 4 months (possibly longer in a deep freezer) before they start tasting a little off. I used to scramble them individually and then freeze them in a muffin tin. There are various instructions on how to do that here: https://happymoneysaver.com/can-y...ze-eggs-2/

For baking, you can scramble a bunch of eggs and pour them into ice cube trays to freeze. Store in freezer bags and note on the outside how many cubes per egg and e.g. two cubes = three eggs

In the refrigerator, fresh, you can store for around three weeks. The older they are the better hard boiled they make = peel easy

Sorry to hear that! Is it just no Kroger Stores or is there no stores associated with the Kroger family in your area e.g. Ralph's, Fry's, Payless, Food 4 Less, Smith's, QFC, Pick n Save, Baker's, etc

We have 23 Kroger named stores in an 18 mile radius here ðŸĪŠ

Won't work for cage-free eggs. Which means states like California where by law hens must be cage-free, this deal won't work.

Just came back from Ralph's n they refused to honor it. Ridiculous.

This isn't dead yet. Maybe it just has a daily limit.

I clipped it and used it at my local Dallas Kroger yesterday and it worked fine.
