I use this regularly. A few tips: you don't need a foodsaver, I use this with a 12V vacuum pump I bought on Amazon. If you have the mini vacuum bag food saver you can take the clear front off of it and there a place to attach this hose. Sometimes the rubber doesn't make contact with the jar's flange so I wrap a string around it and hold it in place until the vacuum takes hold.
There are complaints that taking this off the jar knocks the lid off. If that happens then it means you didn't have much of a vacuum. A properly vacuumed lid is a bit of a pain to remove.

Thanks, this is a great price. I also have this and was tempted to buy three more, but I only bought 1 more now. I paid $45 for this two years ago. What the first response said was true with both using a brake bleeder and the lid sometimes coming off. The brake bleeder can be found on Amazon for $17. If you have issues with the lid coming off, what I do is I take two lids, sandwich a tiny corner of paper towel so that the corner sticks out and prevents a vacuum between the two lids. That way, it's thicker and the two lids don't get stuck together. Works like a charm. Great for saving sauces and even cheese. No need for single use plastics food saver bags.

Thanks OP. I have the wide mouth vacuum sealer cap but was missing the regular. It'll be good to have both (and a backup) now Smilie

I was using these for vacuum sealing green coffee beans. Which reminds me that I haven't roasted coffee in a while and it would be nice to go through a batch again some time.

With the large Mason jars this allows me to many store leftovers and such in glass containers with tight fitting lids instead of plastic containers. Glass containers with plastic lids are only as durable as the lids, that is say, not very durable (looking at you, Pyrex). They say it's not necessary but I throw a ring over the cap of the bottle anyway; it makes the jar easier to grab, and those lids aren't exactly known for smooth edges.

I use this with an air conditioning service vacuum pump for storing dried foods in mason jars. Much stronger vacuum than a foodsaver. Jars handle it fine.

It should work with any sealer with the vac hose port. I have the Mueller sealer and it works perfectly.

Ace Hardware tends to have decent prices on canning supplies. Maybe not the best, but reasonable. They were one of the only sources I could find for 64oz mason jars.

Good idea. Looks like it's 3d printed and a quick search found this: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6031470/files

A little more searching might turn up other versions.

You don't need to waste time doing any of this if you do it the way the old timers did it. Just heat up the contents or drop the contents in a warm or hot pot of water. As the contents cool it will create a vacuum.

Water bath canning is not suitable for many kinds of food, and not as convenient for many other kinds. Also, the amount of vacuum created is only a fraction of what's possible with a pump.
