The only problem with these easy igniting torches is that they are so fun to play with. You'll burn through half the gas just playing.

If you plan on brazing and soldering with it, MAPP gas heats things up faster than propane.

If you've got a lot to do, then this one shoots a better flame:

When I worked in home construction most plumbers used a torch like this with a flint igniter:

recent reviews are absolutely horrible. no quality control on a gas torch ignitor? even on bernzomatic's website this model get pummeled with bad reviews. stick with the TS4000T or TS8000T versions. might cost a lot more but can't go wrong with those and will last forever.
For your serious smoker

If the problem is the igniter, can't you just light it with a match like I watched my father do many time 60 years ago when he worked on copper pipes and melted lead tire weights to make fishing sinkers?

I have this kit and it's good enough for most basic applications but it isn't robust. The igniter works fine. I use it to start fires in my Ooni and fire pit. I rarely braze.

Recently I accidentally knocked it off the bench and some plastic flew off. Still works, but I'm guessing I'm on borrowed time at this point. I'll spring for an all metal construction next time.

I have the 4000, it works well for me. I guess the 8000 is the best you can get. This OP deal is garbage.

Okay, now I need a deal on a good sous-vide. Marinate, cook, and then sear.

I used one of these with a green camping propane tank for some copper plumbing. Works fine.

mine has always worked. but the trigger is red instead of gold. not sure if that makes a difference
Same. I had mine with the red button for probably over 15 years. Still no problem.

It was. This is mapp-PRO. Nowhere near as good as MAPP, and marginally hotter than the ole butane-blu.

Do you have a link? I'm looking for one to practice copper pipe soldering. TIA!

Yep, I didn't discover that until about a month ago.
I had bought 3 14oz bottles of MAPP gas from Home Depot about 2 yrs ago, for about $7 each IIRC.
Tried to find it on HD site a month ago and they no longer listed it.
It 'can' still be bought elsewhere, but I see now the price is close to $20 for a small 14 oz bottle.

The one I have is over a year old and I use it multiple times a week for starting charcoal and other stuff. No igniter issues.
